Lack of Sporting Facilities Are Affecting Our Youth

    0

We all know the benefits of staying active throughout the day. From keeping us fit to keeping our minds active and engaged; physical activity is a must.

Unfortunately in today’s fast-paced world, staying active when you can access everything and anything without moving an inch, is a huge challenge. Coupled with lack of proper sports facilities, this is like a health disaster waiting to happen.

Besides having ill-effects on the health, lack of sporting facilities are pushing the youth towards unhealthy and even fatal habits such as turning to drug abuse, violence, mental and physical health issues, etc.

    Pakistan and Sports

Pakistan has produced a number of outstanding sportsmen in the past. From being cricket champions to lifting the trophies in hockey and squash; Pakistan has witnessed peak in sports!

That said, lack of sporting facilities and simultaneous deterioration of existing sporting facilities has led to dismal outcomes in the sports arena.

Around 64% of our population is comprised of youth and if you look around, there are hardly any proper sporting facilities available to foster any kind of interest in it. In a survey done for UNDP’s National Human Development Report, it was stated that 93% of the 7000 youth that were interviewed did not have any access to sporting facilities.

In a nation which has produced remarkable sports stars as Imran Khan (cricket), Jahangir Khan (squash champion), Mansoor Ahmed(hockey) and Muhammad Yousaf (snooker champion); it is surprising to know that it has the lowest sports budget in all of South-Asia.

Lack of Funding Has Led to Decline in Sporting Activities

Needless to say, one of the main reasons for deterioration in sporting facilities is lack of funding.

Pakistan, as a country, has been undergoing a difficult time over the past few years and allocating adequate sports funds was perhaps not on the priority list, which has consequently led to a massive decline in all sporting activities.

In fact, it is heart-wrenching to see that the youth of today are unable to identify the sporting heroes of yester-years!

How are Lack of Sporting Facilities affecting Youth?

As mentioned before, engaging in sports is one of the best ways to stay healthy fit. It is not just about physical well-being but it has far more out-reaching effects on your mental well-being as well.

Here is how lack of sporting facilities is affecting our youth adversely:

    Lack of Patience

Engaging in sports teaches us team-work, patience and perseverance. Lack of facilities has led to lack of patience and most importantly, it has led to individualism in our youth.

    Street Crime

All young children and adults need an outlet to vent out their energies and if there are no facilities available, chances are that they will be inclined to vent it out on the streets in the form of street crime and this is a dilemma that Pakistan is currently facing.

    Increased Drug Abuse

Alarmingly, our youth is turning towards tobacco and drugs out of boredom as well as curiosity.

Our State Minister for Interior ‘Shahryar Afridi’ states that 75% of students in educational institutions in Islamabad are drug addicts, choosing nothing less than cannabis and heroin as their daily drugs. Similar figures were revealed for Karachi, Lahore and Multan.

Since cannabis and heroin flow in directly from Afghanistan from illegal channels, they are readily available for our youth through local dealers and suppliers.

    Screen Addiction

Our society has gone all-tech and none of us is accepting the reality. Believe it or not, handing your smartphone or tablet to your toddler is equivalent to giving him a gram of cocaine; it is THAT addictive!

Additionally, reports reveal that the adolescent brain is not developmentally ready to resist the enticement of addictive digital media. The addictiveness is leading to inactivity and idle sitting and watching is further leading to various health related issues.

    Obesity

While our youth is starving to death on one hand, on the other, our precious kids are getting obese by the day.

Since there is a lack of physical activity, binge eating, preference towards fast food items and junk food items is leading to obesity; basically, physical problems.

These are just a few issues related to lack of sports in Pakistan.

Let’s all pour in ideas to eliminate this dilemma and save our youth!

Outfitters has recently launched a woody perfume for her known as Goldfix which is currently retailed at Rs. 1690.

Perfumes with a Vanilla Base Note

Vanilla is always used as a base note in perfumes which gives them a sweet and sensual smell. Paired with musk, this is a sure-shot winner.

Best Mehndi Designs for Eid-ul-Fitr 2019

    0
    mehdi designs

Eid is just a couple of days away and if you haven’t sorted out your Eid outfit, shoes and bangles yet, it is time that you do so!

You wouldn’t want to spend Chandraat running around in circles instead of sitting down and applying mehndi or letting a pro do it for you. Half the fun of Chandraat is in gathering all your friends and cousins and either going out for mehndi or doing it on your own. Besides having a good quality mehndi cone from Saeed Ghani in your bag, you also need to have some cool mehndi design pictures saved in your phone so that you know exactly what you want!

From traditional mehndi designs to modern designs, we share some of the most trending patterns for you to choose from!

    The Floral Trail

This design is exquisite and minimalistic at the same time. It starts off with a beautiful flower in the middle of the palm with delicate patterns trailing towards the first finger and the wrist. This is the perfect pattern if you are looking for something that doesn’t overwhelm you.

    The Traditional Tikki!

Eid is all about traditions, so why skip on them while applying mehndi? The traditional mehndi design is simple and classic.

A circular design known as tikki is drawn in the middle of the palm. Now you can play around with a lot of intricate patterns as long as you stay within the circular outline. The finger tips are shaded and filled to complete the whole design. It is a simple yet customary design that never gets old!

    The Wrap-around Mehndi

This design is aptly named the wrap-around design as it enfolds around your hand like a ribbon. It can be an extensive design, starting all the way from the elbow, or you can keep it minimal by starting at the wrist.

The patterns are elaborate and are created in such a way that they move spirally!

    The Top-Hand Design

As the name implies, in this design, only the top sides of the hands are decorated. For this design, black mehndi is used to make it look more striking.

Make sure you use good quality mehndi such as the one from Saeed Ghani to avoid any allergic reactions. The design always starts from the wrist and detailed floral patterns are generally used. The patterns move up till the fingers and the finger tips are decorated with smaller patterns.

    Mehndi with a Twist

If you love to experiment, then this is something that you must try.

Apply mehndi in any design that you prefer. Make sure the pattern you choose is not too intricate as this may hinder your final mehndi design.

Now simply fill up the spaces with colored glitter or plain glitter, however you like. Another awe-inspiring way of doing it is to add glitter directly in your mehndi cone. This way you can get a uniform look.

Eid is All About Tradition, Love and Spreading Happiness!

    Eid Mubarak Everyone!

Met Gala 2019: Who Wore It Best!

    0

MET Gala may be over but just like previous years, this year’s event didn’t disappoint and till the next event, we will be talking about it!(

This year’s theme was inspired by Susan Sontag’s essay and was aptly named ‘Camp: notes on fashion’ which defines love of the unnatural. So you can well imagine how eccentric and over-the-top everyone went!

Who were the best-dressed celebrities of the MET Gala 2019? Witness below!

    Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga simply stole the show when she changed into not 1, 2 but 4 outfits on the red carpet, all by Brandon Maxwell and all the while giving a playful performance.

    Kylie and Kendall Jenner

The Jenner sisters were at it again, channeling Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters, Lil Kim and Vegas showgirls simultaneously. Cool right?

    Billy Porter

Billy Porter was not far behind Lady Gaga as far as over-the-top dressing and an even more theatrical entry was concerned!

Sitting on a black and gold litter carried by chiseled and shirtless bearers; Billy Porter wore an embellished catsuit with an opulent gold headpiece and 10-ft wings! Way to make an impression, I say…

    Celine Dion

Celine Dion had a fashion moment experimenting with new looks and the MET Gala. She had the perfect platform to show off her glamorous and dramatic fashion flair, but that hair…well, some loved the style more than anything!

    Cardi B

Cardi B is sure to give MET Gala’s MVPs a run for their money. This year she wore a Thom Browne gown with 10 feet of tulle and silk organza, topped with dyed coque feathers.

To top it off, she wore a matching head-piece to steal the show!

    Ciara

Wearing a Dundas green embellished gown with ostrich feathers and rocking disco-era hair; Ciara channeled her inner Diana Ross and absolutely aced the look!

    Lupita Nyong’o

Wearing a Versace outfit, Lupita Nyong’o was a neon rainbow vision. Her neon rainbow top, matching fan bag, pink maxi skirt and the gilded picks in her hair truly made her the star she is.

    Katy Perry

When it comes to wearing unconventional and over-the-top outfits, Katy Perry is one name that is a must!

This year, she was completely ‘lit’ in her illuminated Moschino chandelier-as-dress. She complimented the outfit with a matching illuminated headpiece which added a bright aura to her overall look!

    Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan was the ultimate regal queen in her Gucci outfit. The designer house was coincidentally also a sponsor for the event.

Wearing a red and green sequined outfit with golden flames that formed a chest-piece, Saoirse Ronan was ready for fashion battle at the MET Gala.

    Jared Leto

This year’s best dressed list for Met Gala is incomplete if we don’t mention Jared Leto. Wearing a Gucci ensemble in rich red with a crystal harness, Jared Leto came in carrying a replica of his own head to make sure we never forget he was here!

    Michael Urie

It would be unfair not to mention Michael Urie’s bigender outfit. The outfit by Christian Siriano represented gender exploration by channeling Frida Kahlo and Cezanne at the same time.

6 Reasons Why Mathira is Totally Amazing

    0

While flicking through T.V channels, it is hard not to avoid the multitude of the highly criticized, yet the masses’ favorite ‘morning shows’. Nestled among these shows was the famous show called ‘Love indicator’, which aired on Vibe T.V.

The channel not only introduced Mathira to the Pakistanis but oh boy, was it in for a surprise!

Mathira’s unique hosting style invited a lot of curiosity, adulation and criticism as did her choice of outfits. However, as like all other Pakistanis, we all made our conclusions and totally judged her based on shallow assumptions.

If you are from the same boat my friend, here’s what you need to know about Mathira to change your opinion!

She was Born and Bred in Zimbabwe

One of the factors that set Mathira apart from her counterparts is her accent and her soft voice. When she first appeared on Television, it was her laid-back style and her accent that caught the attention of the viewers.

Little does one know that she was born and bred in Harare, Zimbabwe. Her father is a South-African and her mother is a Pakistani. She was educated in Zimbabwe till the age of 15 when she had to move back to Pakistan after her parent’s divorce.

It was in Pakistan that she developed an interest in the entertainment industry and there has been no looking back since!

    She is Super-Talented

Mathira is seriously super-talented. She has not left any stone unturned as far as entertainment industry is concerned. She knows how to entertain!

From modelling to acting to hosting T.V shows and even dabbling with singing; Mathira has done it all.

She can currently be seen in a television drama called Naagin (Geo TV) where she is acing it all as being Mastaani!

She is Never Afraid to Speak Her Mind

If you are here to criticize Mathira, then be ready for a clap back!

Mathira knows how and when to speak her mind. Unlike other celebrities, she is not afraid to voice her thoughts boldly and openly. When people went after her following her divorce, she had the perfect answer to shut them up.

Base line is: Do not mess with Mathira!

She is the Kim Kardashian of Pakistan

Who doesn’t know Kim Kardashian? She is famous for a number of reasons and one of them is how she dresses and carries herself!

Mathira has been labeled as Kim Kardashian of Pakistan, owing to her body, confidence and her bold choices when it comes to dressing up. What’s cool about it is that despite getting a lot of flak for that, she is still carrying on, without a worry!

    She Owns her Actions!

Mathira is a strong woman who knows what she is doing and never backs out. She owns what she does without any regrets.

When the ten-year challenge started trending, she also posted a picture and received backlash for getting lip fillers done. Unlike other celebrities, she openly admitted to getting lip fillers without any hesitation or second thoughts. She also admitted that she groomed herself with the passage of time, which is very rare amongst celebrities.

    She is a loving mother

While Mathira owns a totally bold side, very less people know how loving and caring she can be. Mathira’s son Aahil is 5 years old and she adores him to the moon and back.

Here’s a video for you all to witness!

Our message for the day is:

Never Judge a Book by Its Cover and This Certainly Holds True for Mathira!

3 Ways to make your Iftar Pakoray different and appetizing!

    4

The month of Ramadan is just around the corner and what better way to cleanse and purify our souls and bodies by spending this holy month with utter discipline!

Most of us try to kill two birds with a single stone by sticking to a healthy diet throughout the month, but alas, not all of us are that lucky. Just the plain sight of a golden, crispy pakora is enough to make our resolves disappear into thin air and just to be clear; there is no healthy way to have a pakora!

Hence, my friends… indulge in these absolutely mouth-watering pakora recipes and have a yummy iftaar everyday this year!

    Chili Cheese Pakoras

Just the name of these pakoras is enough to make one drool. The combination of green chilies and cheese is one of those recipes that completely tantalizes your taste buds!…

Well, only if you like your food hot!

    ·         All you need for this recipe are a handful of long and broad green chilies, cheese of your choice ‘although mozzarella cheese works best with green chilies’, sifted chick pea flour, salt, red chili powder, a pinch of baking soda, cumin and enough water to make a batter.

    ·         Prepare your batter before you slice open your chilies and it should be thick enough to hold on to the chilies.

    ·         Wash your chilies and slit them along their length, keeping both the ends intact. You can remove the seeds if you don’t want your pakoras to be extra spicy.

    ·         Before stuffing the chili with cheese, you can rub salt inside.

    ·         Dip the chilies in the batter, coating them evenly and then simply fry them in hot oil till golden brown.

    ·         Your melt-in-the-mouth spicy pakoras are ready!

    Crispy Onion Pakoray

You can’t shy away from a plateful of fresh golden and crispy onion pakoras.

We all have mixed pakoras a lot during Ramadan but these stand-alone onion pakoras are sure to woo you.

    ·         For this recipe, you will need your standard besan batter but to compliment the onions, you can add finely chopped cilantro leaves to it.

    ·         1 or 2 onions, thinly sliced into half-moon shape.

    ·         These pakoras are made like any other pakoras but there is a catch. The batter should be thick like double cream and should have air bubbles in it to make the pakoras light and crispy.

    ·         Dip them in green chutney and crunch away when ready!

    Curry Leaf Chicken Pakoray

This recipe requires a few unique ingredients and this is what makes these pakoras super tasty.

    ·         You’ll need to marinate boneless chicken chunks in a mixture comprising of peanut paste, ginger and garlic paste, some turmeric, salt, crushed red chilies, coriander powder, curry leaves and an egg.

    ·         The besan batter also requires an additional ingredient in the form of corn flour.

    ·         Once the chicken has been marinated well enough, add in besan and corn flour. Toss the chicken to get an even coating.

    ·         Fry the chicken cubes till golden brown and crunchy!

Hope you liked the super easy, yet fun pakora recipes. Try these and let us know how they tasted!

    0

Indian and Pakistani women are known to flaunt natural beauty and you might think, do they spend thousands on beauty salons each day?

Well, to your surprise, Indian women rather choose the natural most home remedies to solve everyday problems. From beauty to curing pains; everything can be treated at home!

During my childhood, my maternal grandmother always made sure I was fit like a fiddle and that I should always stand out from the crowd. Even the days when I had a mere cold, my Nano would come running around with her perfect blend of natural herbs, only to cure me within a jiffy! Trust me, she had a totka for everything!

I would like to happily believe that all her in depth knowledge about the amazing nuskhas and totkay were passed onto her from her grandmother, and all her innate desi wellness tactics have passed down to me too!

Why keep it all to myself? So here’s to sharing her best 5 tried and tested totkay with you all.

    Thank me later peeps!

Fix your Sun tan in minutes!

Expensive creams won’t solve this one! Even if you cover yourself in super strong sunscreens, know that sunburn is inevitable!

Fret not! My Nano has a super quick fix for this.

    Simply take:

    ·         Yogurt (2 tablespoon)

    ·         Lemon juice (1 tablespoon)

    ·         Honey (2 teaspoons)

While yogurt and honey will moisturize and hydrate your skin, lemon will get rid of the tan.

Mix these ingredients together. Apply all over the affected area and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off with cold water and voila! Repeat everyday for better results.

Homemade mask for Thick, long locks!

Thick, long and silky hair is the first attraction of an Indian girl. While we are blessed with good genes, the truth is, we also spend a heck load of time on keeping it perfect! How, you ask? Shhh.. I’m sharing our secret below.

Make a homemade rejuvenating hair mask, apply it twice a month and you will have nothing less than Rapunzel locks!

    To make the blend:

    ·         Egg 1

    ·         Yogurt (2 tablespoon)

    ·         Coconut oil (1 tablespoon)

    ·         Ginger (1 teaspoon juice)

    ·         Banana (1)

You will have to mash the banana and squeeze it through a strainer to avoid getting any lumps in your mix. Do the same for ginger. Then simply mix all the ingredients together, apply them on your hair and scalp and leave for 40 minutes.

Rinse with your favorite shampoo later and don’t forget to apply a conditioner. This is perfect for dry, damaged and dull hair.

Breathing Problems due to air pollution

We are all surrounded by air pollution and there’s nothing much we do to avoid it. Nonetheless, if you are prone to breathing issues due to the changing weather or simply air pollution, here’s a remedy for it.

    ·         Boil 5 cloves in 3 tablespoons of water

    ·         Remove from heat when only 1 tablespoon remains

    ·         Blend this with 1 teaspoon of honey, grated ginger and freshly grinded black pepper (2 teaspoons).

    ·         Store it in a small container and consume 1 teaspoon full, 3 times a day till the heavy breathing subsides.

Fight bad breath with a bang!

Bad breath is something not even your own child can bear smelling off of you!

To avoid the humiliation in public, simply opt for cinnamon (daal cheeni).

Either boil it in water and store it in a spray bottle to use it as a mouth freshener, or simply chew on a small piece. Works both ways!

    Wave those headaches goodbye!

Being struck by a painful headache is not cool at all! Moreover, not being able to cure it immediately is even worse.

Try ginger for a quick cure! Simply create cold water and ginger paste and apply it on your forehead. It might sting a bit initially, but you will totally love the soothing effect later.

Hope you guys loved these simple home remedies for everyday problems.

Let us know your favorite one!

Bollywood: An industry synonymous to nothing less than glamour, fame, beauty, power, and let’s not forget; heaps of money!

As diehard fans, we are up to date with our favorite celebrities’ glossed up pictures streaming across social media, them acting as ideal role models, effortlessly draped in designer clothes all dolled up, never a flaw in sight!

Nonetheless my friends, if you believe that Kareena Kapoor by no means had a bad hair day or that Shahid Kapoor went straight from an angelic toddler to a stunner on screen; you are completely wrong! Just like us, skipping the awkward teenage phase was hard for them too. The cherry on top is how some of our favorite stars began their journey!

Let’s take a look at ‘Kese sab ne papardh bailey…to earn a name in the Bollywood film industry!!!’

    Deepika Padukone

Before Deepika Padukone became the talk of the town because of her on-screen charm, elegance and totally perfect long legs, most of you won’t believe that her smile was probably the only thing she put to good use!

Don’t believe us? Take a look!

Yes! This is Deepika endorsing the brand ‘Close Up’ with her 1000 watts smile!

    Check it out here:

    Akshay Kumar

Known as the ‘Khilaadi Kumar’ after his breakthrough Bollywood feature film Khilaadi 1992, Akshay Kumar has made a special place in the hearts of many fans.

Most of you might not know that Akshay Kumar took interest in martial arts and after saving tirelessly, Akshay’s father sent him to Thailand where he learnt Thai Boxing. While doing so, he struggled in Bangkok as a waiter and dishwasher to make ends meet.

Upon returning back to India, Akshay Kumar became a model and thereafter saw a promising future in the film industry.

Who could imagine him becoming one of the lead stars in Bollywood later!

Interesting fact: Akshay Kumar’s birth name is Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia.

    Anushka Sharma

The beautiful Bollywood starlet who recently married the Indian cricketer Virat Kohli was once a mere background actor!

Starring in ‘Spinz Talc commercial’ in 2008 as a junior artist lead her to attaining a lead role alongside King Khan in Rab ne bana di Jodi 2008.

Needless to say, her career took a kick start then onwards and we can all agree that no one else could have played a better role than Anushka in Band Baja Baraat 2010.

I bet you didn’t notice her when this commercial ran on the television!

Here’s a link to the whole commercial:

    Ranveer Singh

Hard work and pure determination can help you climb the steepest of mountains! This is true to the core in Ranveer Singh’s case.

Initially Ranveer worked as a copywriter for advertising agencies but dreamt of working as a lead actor. When surprisingly Ranbir Kapoor denied working in Band Baja Baraat in 2010 and the director was hunting for a fresh face, he settled with Ranveer Singh and the film became a super hit!

Who knew this ordinary student would land in the top ranked actors of Bollywood today?

    Kangana Ranaut

Good looks and unique hair are not the only attributes one requires to enter the media industry.

Stepping her way into Bollywood through modeling, Kangana was not satisfied with the level of creativity and chances of growth in the modeling industry.

Later, when Kangana played a double role in a theatrical play due to her co-star being missing, the response from the audience urged her to go big on the screens!

Even though her family didn’t approve of her choices, she struggled and starred in amazing films like Gangster and Fashion. They reconciled later.

5 Traditional Ramadan Foods all Pakistanis love breaking their Fast To

    1

Ramadan sounds like an entire month of unreasonable sacrifice and basically hell to all the non-Muslims! However, for us Muslims, there is no other month as blessed and pure as this!

A whole month of fasting in all senses of the word; no water, no food, no smoking, no sexual activity, zero negative thoughts and above all, rather practicing patience, abstain, praying 5 times a day and positivity…. Not something as easy as counting peas!

It is believed that the official laws during Ramadan in Pakistan are far unyielding as opposed to other Islamic countries. Munching on snacks during the fasting hours is a crime. Consequently, for this and many other reasons, Iftar is the time of the day which all Pakistanis love from the core of their heart!

Why, you would ask? Not only because you are allowed to eat anything and everything then onwards, but what makes Iftars special are the scrumptious traditional dishes!

Want to know what it’s like to spend a traditional Iftar in Pakistan? Here are top 5 food items all Pakistanis can swear by!

    Tasty ‘Pakorey’

A true Ramadan staple all across Pakistan, be it in households or in the market; Pakorey are a must for Iftar!

Pakorey are a mouth watering savory delight made from gram flour paste wrapped around an assortment of freshly diced vegetables.

Exactly what Pakistani Muslims crave for, at Iftar!

While the popular ones are aloo pakorey, mix vegetable pakorey (onion, potato, green chilies), and bengan pakorey; innovation takes place in these from home to home.

We also love Anday Pakorey (egg)! Best served at Charra Pani, Murree.

    Crispy Samosey!

The second food which tops the Pakistani Iftar culinary special is none other than ‘Samosa’.

The triangular carefully folded, securely packed savory goodness when deep fried in ghee or oil is perfect for breaking a fast at sundown.

Inside this crumbly crust is mostly potato filling infused with local herbs. Nonetheless, you will also find samosas containing chicken or beef.

Interestingly, a few local culinary specialists have introduced flavored samosas which represent our true Pakistani taste buds.

    Craving Samosas?

Checkout Samosa kitchen (Main Market, Lahore) for the most appetizing, flavorful and unique samosas ever!

    Our favorite?

    Definitely the Nutella Bomb Samosa!

    Dahi Baray

Dahi Baray is the yummiest snack one can have, especially during the scorching summer months!

Dahi baray are not as easy to cook, hence, most people settle for its other easier version known as ‘dahi phulki’.

The highlight of this delicacy is the smooth taste of yellow lentil and white lentil (moong and mash) blended together, shaped into balls, then deep fried, only to be topped off with freshly beaten yogurt. What’s more? A hint of tamarind sauce with sprinkles of red chili powder and salt to taste.

This treat is refreshing and eye opening after a long fast during Ramadan!

    Chana Chaat

Channa Chaat is also one of our preferred Pakistani cousines not only during Ramadan but also as a tea time snack, especially when Khala plans to visit!

This chickpea traditional salad is usually made by mixing diced onions, boiled potatoes, chopped green chilies, freshly squeezed lemon juice, green coriander and when you top this off with homemade tamarind sauce; trust us! You will definitely yearn for a second helping!

    Jalebi

When it comes to munching on something super sweet and delicious, nothing beats the crispy texture of Jalebi. And imagine sheera ‘sugar syrup’ oozing out in your mouth!

Us Pakistanis wouldn’t settle for anything less for iftar!

Come visit Pakistan during Ramadan and treat yourself to our traditional cuisines!
