5 Reasons Why You Should Watch The Legend Of Maula Jutt

    0

Pakistan’s cinema industry has been struggling to find its feet since a very long time. Saying that doesn’t take away anything away from the brilliant work that many filmmakers have put forward till now.

Films made in Pakistan are regularly screened at International Film Festivals. In fact, films like Saawan, Sandstorm (Mulaqat) and Joyland have won international awards as well. However, Pakistani audiences had never witnessed anything like The Legend Of Maula Jatt before.

It is definitely a film that Curryflow recommends you to watch in a theatre and here are 5 reasons why!

    Honoring the Original Story

It is true that Director and Writer Bilal Lashari had announced that the film will not be a remake or a sequel to the original 1979 cult classic “Maula Jatt”. The Legend Of Maula Jatt embraces the spirit of the original with the utmost respect. While it derives a few catchphrases and a general trajectory from the original script, The Legend Of Maula Jatt dives deeper into character building developing a greater impact of cause and effect. Despite this, the simplicity of the core of the original story remains intact. If you don’t believe us, read what Mustafa Qureshi had to say about The Legend Of Maula Jatt:

“I would like to thank Ammara Hikmat and BIlal Lashari who have paid a great tribute to Sultan Rahi, Myself and the crew of Maula Jatt in such an epic way. When I saw the trailer for this film, I recalled that our film (Maula Jatt, 1979) was made with a very small budget but the audiences made it a huge box office hit. I have heard that this film (The Legend Of Maula Jatt) was made on a huge budget and I sincerely pray that it makes even greater profits than us.”

    Cinematography

Before we get down to the nitty gritty of this film, let’s take a moment to appreciate the absolutely stunning cinematography that makes this film a visual feast. Bilal Lashari himself did the Cinematography and what a marvelous job he has done. You can truly feel that the visuals were imagined way before the film ever began production.

It’s not just visual shooting that’s great (which, it obviously is) but the color grading and the camera angles. Everything is spot on! The cinematography really sets the tone for the entire film as it truly paints a simple story on a magical canvas resulting in this glamorous epic. Who would have thought that a tale set in rural Punjab during “the old times” would be glamorous?

    Casting & Acting

Many people were skeptical when the casting was announced for the film. It was hard to imagine Fawad Khan as Maula Jatt and Hamza Ali Abbasi as Noori Natt. Both characters are raw and ready to get dirty. However, both the actors enjoy their fame under almost completely opposite personas. Despite this, all skeptics went mute as soon as the film released.

Not only the lead men, but the entire cast shone at their best in this film. It shows that hard work had been put in as not only is this a film based in a regional language (not spoken regularly by the cast), but also set on a rural horizon. This means that they had to adopt a language, mannerisms and even go through physical training and weight changes for this film.

    The Amazing Characters

Hamza Ali Abbasi as Noori Natt has probably been the most talked about actor from the film for his complete immersion in Noori Natt’s character. Having said that, Humaima Malick as Daaro portrays a female antagonist unlike anything ever witnessed by Pakistani audiences. Bold and in control, she controls the audience whenever she takes the spotlight including the scene where she decapitates an opponent.

Faris Shafi’s portrayal of Mooda provides the ideal blend of comedic relief and an emotional attachment to the protagonist. Gohar Rasheed took the little known character of Makkha Natt to heights never seen before. Gohar communicates perfectly the vile nature of the character while completely captivating the audience. Nayyar Ejaz, Babar Ali, Resham, Ali Azmat and Mahira Khan set very well in their roles as well.

Cast members are a mixture of veterans, theatre trained actors and TV experienced actors. All did a fantastic job making this an extremely memorable film.

    Score

It is very rare to watch a Lollywood film and be mesmerized by the score. Clearly, this area requires much development in the Pakistani industry altogether. However, The Legend Of Maula Jatt’s score operates at an entirely different level. Sarmad Ghafoor is the composer. Interestingly, he is one of the most sought out Pakistani music producers today. He has an immense experience in the music industry and is very well respected among peers as well. Moreover, he has enjoyed almost two decades of mainstream success in Pakistan including being pivotal in launching Atif Aslam’s career to an ideal start.

The score is extremely gells well with the visuals. It perfectly complements the story and the moods of scenes. There are moments of absolute subtle genius that you’ll pick up during your viewing. Furthermore, the intensity is spot on during fight sequences and moments of passion and emotion. The score for this film is definitely an important component in tying up this beautiful piece of cinema.

    Action Choreography

One of the first things that stood out to the general audiences after the trailer was released was how Hollywood-esque the action sequences seemed. It now reveals that the action choreography team included human resources from Hollywood as well. An experienced team of stunt coordinators and performers were on board for this film. People who have worked on huge Hollywood films like John Wick 3, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Edge of Tomorrow, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Wonder Woman: 1984. Of course, these guys did not disappoint. All action sequences are intense and seem extremely real. We really can’t say if the portrayal of Punjabi warfare from the “old times” is accurate or not. However, we can tell you for sure that it’s really cool! Kudos to the team on the editing panel for smooth cuts as well.

11 Best Pizza Parlors in Lahore

    0

Lahore is historically one of the centers of literature, culture, heritage and arts. It’s no surprise that the city offers a very wide array of cuisines and culinary masterpieces.

Indeed, one of the food items Lahoris have made their own is ‘Pizza’. From the poshest commercial areas to the far-flung housing societies on the edge of the city, pizza is available EVERYWHERE! Here is a list of 11 best pizza parlors in Lahore.

    Rina’s Kitchenette

If rustic Italian thin crust brings water in your mouth, Rina’s Kitchenette is the perfect place for you. Interestingly, Rina’s offers a cool variety of flavors, keeping the crust thin and crispy in all. You can choose from the classic Margherita, Porcini, Into the woods, Pepperoni Miele Caldo, Caramelized onions and Aubergines and an amazing fish flavor named Salmon like me.

To be honest, I totally dig Rina’s pizzas. Firstly because of the out-of-this-world flavor. Secondly, because you just cannot have one slice! The prices are budget friendly considering the unique flavor and style. Personally, I love into the woods because of the globs of cream cheese that just melt in your mouth.

    Sweet Affairs

Sweet Affairs offers a unique taste in their pizzas. Interestingly, the ‘brick oven’ baked concept literally takes the whole pizza experience right up to the sky! The flawlessly charred slices are topped with your favorite marinated chicken and just the precise amount of cheese. You can choose from Mexicano and spicy ranch for a spice blast, Fresh Garden and 4 cheese for vegetarians and then options like pepperoni, Catadina and Mint Tandoori are also available.

If you must ask, Sweet Affairs also bids rather Pakistani/desi style toppings. Hence, if you are in for a fusion treat, this pizza parlor is ideal for you.

    Cosa Nostra

Cosa Nostra is a trendy, hip place for youngsters to hang out and have a delicious meal at. While everything they offer is totally scrumptious, obviously including their pizzas. Their Italian recipes are perfect and they cater to all sorts of foodies. Select white, whole wheat or gluten for the dough while you have a plethora of options for your toppings.

Pizza Rustica, Tres Formaggi, Frutti Della Terra, Salamella and Primavera are just a few from the list. They play with cheese flavors including ricotta, Emmental, mozzarella while the rest of the city only offers cheddar. So here’s the reason for the perfect bite you are missing out on. Moreover, as for the damage, their pricing is set for teenagers and is totally affordable.

    Meat the Cheese

Meat the Cheese is a new find for me and what an amazing find is it! I mean, everything on the menu is superb. Mainly, I fell in love with their cheese because it is not the standard Lahori cheddar cheese mixed with mozzarella. The way it pulls but melts at the same time is heavenly.

Meat the Cheese has an amazing menu for all age groups. Since we are talking about pizzas, ill strictly stick to the topic. Interestingly, my daughters fell in love with the ‘Aunt Margherita’. It includes 4 different types of cheese and I kid you not; its out of this world. Since the brand also uses ricotta and blue cheese, the taste is bound to be supreme. They have 8 magical flavors to offer you guys. This place should be on your list for sure.

    L’ amour

L’ amour is another awesome spot that recently opened up. Right under Cue cinemas, this restaurant provides an indoor as well as an outdoor seating. Pizzas are a new addition to their menu. They are currently offering 7 different flavors at the moment. The thin crust is chewy and their dough is awesome. Fried chicken and hot honey is the best thing you will have on your pizza!

    Pantry

Again, if you desire something sophisticated in your pizza, the Pantry Lahore by Polo Lounge is the right answer. The wood-fired oven smells divine and the freshly baked pizzas coming out of it are even better. Indeed, The Pantry brings triumph to your taste buds through a wide variety of flavors. From thin crust to square pies to perfect Neapolitan style treats; they’ve got it all.

Moreover, the chef fuses flavors with pine nuts, aubergines, buffalo mozerlla, chilli ricotta dressing and so much more. While it all sounds fancy, the prices are entirely affordable.

    Café Aylanto

Well, everything Aylanto serves, literally everything is super classy; whether it is the taste, the menu or the presentation. Aylanto is for the elites of Lahore. Strategically located in the heart of MM Alam, Aylanto also brings a unique style of pizza to tantalize your taste buds. Fortunately, Aylanto is the perfect place to enjoy brunch/ lunch time pizza with your colleagues in a calm, mature environment.

Known for their crispy, thin crust, Aylanto brings diverse flavors compared to other eateries. Sweet tahini and Za’ atar pizza is out of this world. Mediterranean, Buffalo Mozerlla, Formaggio and  Basil Pesto are other interesting options.

    Amavi

We surely cannot leave Amavi out of the list because it offers amazing pizzas. The new and improved crust has got its customers hooked to the taste. Moreover, flavors like house sour dough and black truffle, butter drizzle, pesto, sundried tomatoes, spinach and cheese are all  too interesting to leave out.

Indeed, the pizza toppings are unique. The prices many seem towards a steeper edge, but if you are a pizza lover, they are totally worth a try.

    Jalal Sons

Jalal Sons is the go-to place for a quick pizza fix. They bake delicious pizzas within 15 minutes of the order and you can take-away immediately. However, how I enjoy this treat is by ordering it and finishing it bite by bite in my car. Hot, fresh pizzas with melting cheese are top notch slices worth fighting for.

You can take your pick from personal size pizzas, regular 10 inch and a family size 13 inch pizza. As for the toppings, you can choose from chicken tikka, chicken fajita, chicken supreme, smoked chicken, beef supreme and even vegetarian options. Moreover, you can also choose between thick or thin crust to customize pizzas that perfectly suit you. You can find Jalal sons at 3 different locations in Lahore.

    NY 212

Located in Johar Town, on MM Alam as well as as in DHA, NY 212 is another pizzeria you need to try. NY 212 is a quick fix for your pizza craving at an odd hour. You can get it from their outlet or get the goodness delivered at your doorstep.

Interestingly, you can build your own customized pizza by choosing from the size, crust, topping and add-ons. While you can avail a personal pan at 9 inches, you can go big with a party size and get a 21 inch as well. Isn’t that cool? It sure looks pretty when you see it on the table!

The flavors are rather standard. However, if you enjoy your pizza toppings marinated in a desi spicy masala, NY 212 is the place to look for.

    Sarpinos

Sarpino’s is the king of classic desi style pizzas. If you crave a cheesy thick crust pizza with a desi touch, Sarpino’s the spot for you. Moreover, Sarpino’s offers not just chicken flavors but beef options as well. You can select your spice-meter and order accordingly.

For one, their dough is super delicious. The fresh-out-of-the-oven pizzas are aromatic, chewy and totally worth it. Equally important, Sarpino’s is on the budget-friendly side so you better check it out soon.

Pakistan is a powerhouse when it comes to generating exciting talent for cricket. Pakistan’s cricketing history is full of individuals who have the ability to single handedly snatch victory from their opponents. There is no shortage of names that come to mind when thinking along those lines.  Pakistan has been producing A class talent in all departments of the game since decades now.

It has only been relatively recent since Pakistan has started to produce great women cricketers as well. Clinical with the ball and bat, these women are to be feared by their opponents on the field. Making their international debut as a team in 1997, Pakistani women are slowly creeping up the ranking system and improving their win/loss ratio. Pakistani women have had the privilege of holding multiple world records in Cricket as well.

Here are 5 women cricketers from Pakistan who have made noteworthy global impact on the game.

    Shaiza And Sharmeen Said Khan

Hailing from Karachi, these sisters were the pioneers of women’s cricket in Pakistan. While both sisters have decent cricketing records, their struggle and greatness lies in other aspects of the game. They introduced the alien idea of women in sports during extremely conservative times of their country. Not only were they met with death threats and misogyny in general, they were taken to court as well. For a brief time, it was even ruled that women are prohibited from playing sports due to religious issues.

The sisters however, faced all these objections bravely and paved the legal way for all women in Pakistan to play any sports of their choice without any fear.

Shaiza Khan remained the captain of Pakistan’s Women Cricket team from 1997 to 2004.

    Sana Mir

Sana Mir is arguably the biggest name Pakistan Women’s Cricket has produced yet. Born in Abbotabad into a military family, Mir had the opportunity to live and play in different parts of Pakistan. She made her One-Day International debut in 2005 as a bowling all-rounder.

Indeed, she has been one of the most successful captains for the side. She has led the team in one hundred and thirty seven matches. During her tenure as captain, she ranked number one in the Women’s One-Day International Bowling Rankings. Not only that, eight other players from Pakistan also made it to top International Cricket Council rankings as well.

Her deep understanding of the game led the side to many tournament wins. These included 2010 and 2014 gold medal winning performances in Asian Games. In 2012, she became the first ever woman cricketer to receive Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for her services in Cricket.

Nowadays, she lends her services as a commentator with in-depth analysis and eloquence.

    Bismah Maroof

Bismah Maroof was quick to explode on the Pakistan national level at the age of 15 in the year 2006. Playing as a batting all-rounder, Maroof became the first ever Pakistani woman cricketer to complete one thousand runs in one-day internationals. She served the team as a vice captain with Sana Mir as captain for a while. After that, she was awarded the captaincy of the Pakistani Women’s Cricket team in 2013. She led the side till 2020.

Sporadic injuries have led Maroof to take a few breaks during her career. However, that has never hindered her ability to score quick runs on the field for her team. During her tenure as captain, Pakistan has won multiple tournaments including one of the only two times Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team won a tournament with a clean sweep.

Currently leading the side with a plethora of superstars, Maroof has cemented her place in the history books as a leader who leads by example. Her tenure has added formal structure and defined roles for the team and the management as well.

    Nida Dar

Born to a first-class cricketer Rashid Hassan, Dar has cricket in her blood. Known as “Lady Boom Boom” by her peers and opponents owing to the fireworks she puts on display with the bat. Dar is basically a bowling all-rounder. Her achievements with the bat have earned her a daunting nickname. However, her performance with the ball is even more impressive with match winning performances sprinkled all over her career. These include 4 five wicket hauls in T20 matches.

Representing Pakistan since 2010, Dar has become a regular in the team and has greatness written all over career. She is extremely potent with both the ball and the bat. She is definitely one of those players whose opponents dread meeting them in the field.

    Honorable Mentions

There is no shortage of great players that have retired and budding talent that is waiting to explode on the international Women’s Cricket scene. Not every woman will be able to make it to the short list of exemplary players that we have worked up. However, these current players deserve honorable mentions so that we keep an eye out for their ever improving performances as they find their way to international cricket legacy.

    1. Javeria Khan
    2. Sidra Ameen
    3. Ayesha Naseem

5 High-End Sports Brands Manufacturing Products in Pakistan

    0

Pakistan has a rich history of culture, arts and sports. Specifically speaking about sports, Pakistan has had the privilege of being a world champion of many, in different tournaments held across the globe. Cricket, hockey, snooker and squash are some of the sports Pakistan has completely dominated in at least one era. Not only that, Pakistan is now slowly making space for itself in the manufacturing of sportswear and sports gear industries.

Multinational brands of sportswear and sports gear have traditionally manufactured their products either close to their central headquarters; or in China due to lower costs of labor. With automated technology integration in manufacturing processes and regional politics in play; brands have started to seek alternate production locations for a better balance of costs versus revenues.

Take a look at your favorite high-end sports gear brands produced in Pakistan.

    NIKE

When it comes to brands that produce sportswear and sports gear, Nike needs no introduction. Founded in the United States of America in 1964; Nike has established itself as the trendsetter. It is the go-to brand for many professional athletes around the globe spanning over an extremely wide variety of sports.

Nike stores are common in the big cities of Pakistan. However, one almost never associates these goods with pristine quality and flawlessness to be produced in Pakistan. Despite the gross assumption, Nike currently has five factories within Pakistan operating its production and shipping operations for the country and the region at large.

Interestingly, Pakistan produces a very wide variety of sports goods for Nike. These include footballs, t-shirts, knitted material, pants and shoes among others. Most of these factories export their finished products to the United States of America.

    ADIDAS

Adidas is a holding company situated in Germany. Moreover, it is probably the only brand of its category that has ever given Nike any competition whether it comes to sales, advertising or scoring the best brand ambassadors. Adidas has scores of factories and operations spread over many countries. However, a single company in Sialkot runs all the operations.

The product range manufactured within Pakistan for Adidas is very similar to that of Nike. These include footwear, clothing and sports accessories. Having said that, Adidas hoodies and fleeces made in Pakistan have particularly garnered a fanfare of their own. Apart from that, Pakistan also produces many models of Adidas shoes and gloves . They are shipped to different parts of the world. However, the crown jewel would have to be Adidas footballs made in Pakistan used in almost all FIFA world cup matches.

    CA Sports

How can we talk about manufacturing of sports equipment in Pakistan and not mention cricket equipment manufacturing giants “CA sports”?

Starting as an SME venture in 1958; this brand from Sialkot rose to unprecedented heights in the 1970s.They are the pioneers of the curved bat that is still being used today by international players around the globe. Their current lineup of brand ambassadors includes the likes of Jason Roy, Eoin Morgan, Fakhar Zaman and Shoaib Malik among others.

While CA Sports specializes in cricket bat manufacturing, they produce excellent cricket balls, complete cricket kits and cricket apparel including kit bags and backpacks as well,

Respected and used by top tier cricketers, CA Sports really doesn’t require active advertising. Their brand ambassadors do the job for them by using their bats on field with the unmistakable large CA logo on the bats. The company strives to innovate and prides itself of being an original Pakistani sports brand esteemed by world class athletes around the world.

    PUMA

Puma is another German origin company. It was founded in the late 1940s. An interesting fact about Puma’s origin is that the founder of Puma Rudolf Dassler was the brother of Adolf Dassler who founded Adidas. The brothers jointly created a company in 1924. After a span of 24 years, the Dassler brothers decided to split and create Puma and Adidas.

Puma specialize in athletic and casual footwear, apparel and accessories. Almost all Puma products feature the Puma logo which is distinctive and catches the eye.

Puma is a brand fairly common in Pakistani markets. The nation has embraced the brand as one of their own. Operations in Pakistan include the production of kids’ apparel, adult fleeces and other accessories. Pakistan also produces winter sports equipment and apparel. although the production is not of a very high volume as yet. Products are easily available in the market as well. However, many fake products and near-perfect impostors also prowl the markets.

    HUGO BOSS

Hugo Boss is yet another company from our list that is based in Germany. However, Hugo Boss generally associates with the fashion industry and not with sportswear or equipment. The company was facing issues with production in China largely due to Covid-19 pandemic and the supply-chain problems it created for many multinational companies.

In 2020, Hugo Boss placed its first order with a manufacturer in Karachi, Pakistan for the production of t-shirts for the German national soccer team.  The product is not only available for the team but as merchandise purchasable by the fans as well.

The inclusion of Hugo Boss in the list of international brands that place manufacturing orders in Pakistan; has been a huge deal for Pakistan as it signifies premium quality manufacturing at relatively low costs. This sends a very positive and attractive signal to other huge brands like Hugo Boss to focus on the Pakistani manufacturing markets.

Top 8 Pakistani Drama Series 2022 that are exciting and entertaining

    0

For sure, 2022 is the year of impeccable drama series that showcase nothing but perfection. With years of experience and amazing storyline ideas, Pakistanis really know how to create drama series that hook us all to the screens.

If you wish to witness the ideal penned-down plots, amazing sets, melodic OSTs and perfectly character-driven series; you have come to the right place.

Here are a few eye-catching series you should definitely not miss this year.

    Wabaal

A slightly cliched series, Wabaal unravels a love story we are mostly familiar with. However, what makes the drama great are the twists that unfold later in the series. Wabaal features Sarah Khan, Meerub Ai, Shagufta Ijaz and Talha Chahour.

Sarah Khan and Merub Ali are sisters that belong to a low-middle class background. While the younger sister is grounded, the elder one desires to climb the social ladder. However, when Sarah comes across her neighbor who is grounded, self-made and hardworking, things begin to change for her.

Interestingly, there is something fairy-tale like about this series. It is all about love, casual domestic issues and a girl trying to turn her dreams into reality. It is light, breezy and easy on the eyes.

    Habs

Habs features Ushnah Shah, Feroz Khan, Ayesha Omar, Saba Faisal and others. Interestingly, it has become one of the top favorite series in a short span of time because of its storyline. The audience is having a nostalgic moment with this series because it reminds them of old PTV dramas. Reason being the low background music and story unfolding slowly.

Firstly, the number of actors in Habs are very less. However, the writer, Ayesha Makhdoom has turned each of them into dynamic personalities that one feels drawn towards them instantly. Now, the story revolves around two people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. While the man has a traumatizing childhood, the girl has something similar to share. What makes this series interesting is how they meet, bond and fall in love.

    Bakhtawar

Bakhtawar has blown the charts with a unique storyline and amazing acting by none other than Yumna Zaidi. I mean, how can any drama be dull when you have Yumna Zaidi on board? Momina Duraid is the director while this series features Zaviyar Nauman Ijaz, Ali Wasi Kazmi and more.

The story circles around the protagonist, Bakhtawar who belongs to an underprivileged family. While her father deserts the family, her mother is bound to support her sister, her  and her disabled brother. 1992 Cricket World cup Final XI and what they are up to in 2022-23

    0

The epitome of cricketing success for any nation is winning the cricket world cup. This competition happens every four years. Cricketing nations prepare and build teams for years to compete in this contest for glory.

Moreover, giants like South Africa and New Zealand are still yet to win a Cricket World Cup.  Pakistan got its hands on the trophy in 1992 under the fierce leadership of Imran Khan in 1992.

    The Big Day

Pakistan was not exactly the favorite to win the tournament. However, the team gained momentum during the tournament and qualified to play the knockout stage. They beat New Zealand in the semi final and ensured their place in the final match. Pakistan played the 1992 Cricket World Cup Final Match against England at Melbourne Cricket Ground on 25th March 1992.

The jampacked stadium set the biggest stage for cricket. A war of nerves and passionate physicality ensued. Pakistan became the World Champion for 1992-1996. Professional players turned into superstars and national heroes overnight. Let’s find out what these gentlemen are up to these days.

    Imran Khan

Already a legend of the game, Khan had announced his retirement in 1988 from the sport. However, he was requested by the President of Pakistan to continue his duties till the next world cup in 1992. Interestingly, it was his belief that led Pakistan to the glorious victory and it holds true. He played a captain’s innings with the bat scoring the highest runs by any batsmen in the match.

As a bowler, he got the legendary last wicket of the match bowling his last ball ever in international cricket. Hence, he held the trophy in his hand as he announced his retirement from international cricket. He said that his task was complete!

These days, Khan is easily the most popular political figure in Pakistan. He is the chairman of his political party Pakistan-Tehreek-E-Insaf. Moreover he has also served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018-2021. Today, he spends his days challenging the current government and addressing huge rallies that gather in his support for free and fair elections.

He has an immense portfolio of philanthropic work as well. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust and charity for victims of floods of 2022 in Pakistan are two huge philanthropic projects initiated by Khan which are currently ongoing.

    Aamer Sohail

One of the best left handed opening batsmen ever to be a part of the Pakistani Cricket Team. Known for his knack for hitting boundaries; Sohail just couldn’t crack the code in this match and gave away his wicket rather cheaply. He also got to bowl and did a smooth job of slowing down the opposition’s scoring rate.

Aamer Sohail has had his stints at different positions at the Pakistan Cricket Board over the years. More recently, he has been heard commentating on cricket for different international television networks. With so much cricket being played throughout the year, this seems to be a great way to stay in touch with the game, travel and enjoy great fiscal rewards.

    Rameez Raja

The right handed opening batsman was rendered ineffective with the bat. However, he made up by that iconic running catch on the last ball of the game winning Pakistan the world cup.

Raja has been the spearhead of Pakistani commentators for years. His go-to phrases and distinct style of commentary have become iconic by themselves. While many would think of great commentary when they hear Raja’s name currently, he has been appointed as the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board.

Rameez Raja is an extremely active chairman of the board. He has done a marvelous job in convincing other international teams for full fledge tours of Pakistan. He has brought international test cricket back to Pakistan. Apart from that, he has taken a very keen interest in developing t20 league cricket. Javed Miandad

For some, he is the greatest batsman Pakistan has ever produced. He proved that when he became the only batsman from Pakistan except Imran Khan to cross the 50 runs mark in the final match of Cricket World Cup 1992.

Over the years, Miandad has stayed involved with Pakistan Cricket Board in some capacity or the other. He has remained the team’s coach for a long time as well. However, he has remained a bit inactive since the last few years owing to his health and age (65). He still comes on television shows as an expert analyst on cricket and all things related. Some deem his opinions to be controversial but that’s Miandad for you, always speaking from the heart.

    Inzimam Ul Haq

Inzimam played an extremely unconventional knock in the final match considering the legendary career that followed.  He scored 42 runs off 35 bowls with a strike rate of 120.00 and gave Pakistan a fighting chance in the final match.

Inzimam has a spiritual background and he is now mostly living a life of a Sufi disciple. Apart from that, he has been chief selector for Pakistan Cricket Board among other areas of service for cricket in Pakistan. He also cofounded Meat One (A halal meat providing service) with Saeed Anwar and is the founder of “The legends of Inzimam Ul Haq” a clothing store located in Lahore.

    Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram was awarded the man of the match for his fiery bowling and a blitz with the bat scoring 33 runs off just 18 balls. Akram’s ferocity stays unmatched. His deliveries swung wherever he wanted and took three important wickets to get Pakistan into the driving seat.

Wasim Akram has avoided officially becoming a part of The Pakistan Cricket Board for too long. However, he has had coaching experiences with league teams. Moreover, he has an extremely large portfolio of appearing in television commercials, shows and commentating In international matches around the world. He is currently appointed as the CEO of A Sports, Pakistan’s first HD sports channel. Besides all of this, Akram will also me making his first appearance in a Lollwood film currently titled “Money back guarantee”, which will be released soon.

    Saleem Malik

Malik was a serious middle order batsman who did not get a chance to show off his skills in this particular match.

At the twilight of his career, Malik was clouded by controversies of match fixing and was eventually banned by The Pakistan Cricket Board. Once the ban was lifted, Malik tried to get involved with cricket in official capacity once again. However, Pakistan Cricket Board clearly and visibly distanced itself from the player. He is currently in the process of establishing a cricket academy for youngsters. Besides that, he looks after his personal business with his partner as well.

    Ijaz Ahmed

Ijaz Ahmed is another solid middle order batsman who did not get the chance to bat in this all-important game.

Ahmed has an immense experience of cricket spanning over 60 test matches and 250 One day internationals. Considering that, Pakistan Cricket Board has been utilizing his experience to train and coach youngsters from time to time over the decades. He is currently Pakistan’s Under 19 team’s coach. In addition, he is also the batting coach and consultant for Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League.

    Moin Khan

Moin Khan is generally known for his quick runs with the bat and extremely vocal involvement as the wicket keeper for the team. In this particular match, he was directly involved in three dismissals including that of Neil Fairbrother, the top scorer for England in this match.

Moin Khan has been involved with cricket in many forms ever since he retired as a player. He has been the chief selector for Pakistani team at one point in time while he was the head coach at another. Over the years, he has developed his own cricket academy in Karachi as well. While he may not be directly involved with Pakistan Cricket Board at the moment, his opinions are widely respected. He appears on sports shows on many television channels as an expert cricket analyst as well.

    Mushtaq Ahmed

He was the leg spinning wizard from Pakistan. He nearly crippled the opposition grabbing 3 wickets and bowling a maiden over during such a crunch match. Moreover, he swung the ball like anything and confused the batsmen to the core.

Just like most of his peers, Mushtaq Ahmed has been coaching teams around the globe. His recent jobs include being the spin bowling coach for the Pakistani Team, head coach for National Cricket Academy, spin bowling coach for the West Indies Cricket team, bowling coach for Surrey County Cricket Team amongst others. In a nutshell, Ahmed keeps himself busy by improving and teaching his art to the next generation of wizards and magicians with the ball.

    Aaqib Javed

Aaqib ended up with dream figures for a cricket world cup final match. He took important wickets of Alec Stewart and Neil Fairbrother at the right time to support his team’s campaign. More importantly, he bowled two maidens which gave him an economy rate of under 3 runs per over which is absolutely insane for a pacer in a crunch match.

While Aaqib has his investments set up with a computer Hardware Company, his main focus has remained to be cricket. He has been coaching teams within Pakistan and around the globe. Most notably, he was one of the people who really helped out in developing teams of Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates.

He has been appointed as the Director of Cricket Operations and bowling consultant for Lahore Qalandars since 2016. Moreover, he is a regular on the television as an expert cricket analyst.

Here’s Everything You Can Learn about Pakistan Women’s Cricket

    0

Cricket is Pakistan’s most popular sports beyond a shadow of a doubt. Pakistan has been competing with its National Men’s Team since the 1950’s. The success that has followed since then has cemented Pakistan’s place in the world of Cricket as a formidable and important side. However, external factors like regional and religious insecurities hampered the way for women’s cricket until the late 1990’s.

Lack of Vision for Women’s Sports in Pakistan

Pakistan has experienced its fair share of religious extremism and cultural conservativeness for the most part of its existence. Pakistan declared independence from the British colonial rule in the year 1947. However, it left the nation in confusion and extremities. Especially in terms of divisions of social classes according to religion, language, and other social strata.

While the country has been trying to find its feet; one of the issues was competitive sports for women on international stages. The governments and religious authorities alike looked down upon women’s sports. More importantly, women’s sports were deemed as unnecessary activities for women. Concentrating on family values was everyone’s main aim. Finding their real purpose in home and nation building.

The Dawn of Women’s Cricket In Pakistan

Despite the grim situation, two extremely courageous sisters Shazia Khan and Sharmeen Khan took the bull by the horns. They formally introduced the notion of Pakistan Women’s Cricket in 1996 and played a huge role in establishing Pakistan Women’s Cricket Control Association. The idea met extreme backlash as expected.

Not by the public at large, but by the religious faculties and insecure government officials. Death threats and litigations immediately became a problem for the spirited women. In fact, the government just point blank refused them to play against the Indian Women’s Cricket Team in 1997. Mainly, citing religious issues at the core forbidding women to play spots in public.

The women at the helms of affairs finally put their foot down. They fought the battles that needed to be fought and secured a couple of series in 1997 to be played internationally.  With such storms brewing in the background, it was probably well understood that the team might not perform well. However, these turbulent times secured and paved the way for decades of cricket to come for the women of Pakistan. Hats off to the ladies who stood their ground!

The Early Years and the Steep Learning Curve

The Pakistan Women’s Cricket team made a buzz in the international arena largely due to their struggle to be recognized as an official body.

One-on-one series invites with other nations began pouring. In fact, they were even invited to take part in Women’s Cricket World Cup in 1997. As expected, the team did not perform well but they were getting much-needed exposure to other teams and their infrastructures. This led to the zeal to achieve better infrastructure and development for women in the sport.

The Pakistan Women’s Cricket Control Association was generally looked down upon by The Pakistan Cricket Board which managed the Men’s Cricket team. However, the women kept at it and negotiated as many playing opportunities as they could with other international cricket boards. It wasn’t until 2003 when the team was invited to take part in an event hosted by International Women’s Cricket Council in Ireland. Moreover the Pakistan Cricket Board started taking interest as well. Especially when they announced that only Pakistan Cricket Board has the authority to send any cricketing teams to internationally recognized events.

Once again, litigations ensued for the control of cricketing teams and their activities. The problem was eventually solved when International Women’s Cricket Council recognized that both men’s and women’s teams will be governed by the same official body.

    Here to Play and Stay!

Once the dust from the legal battles settled, it was now up to the team to prove their mettle in the ground. The team started touring other countries for series a lot more than before. They also began to get opportunities to host other international teams for one-on-one series as well. Apart from that, they started receiving invitations to participate in events. Events organized by The International Cricket Council and The International Women’s Cricket Council. Such tournaments included Women’s World Cup Qualifiers and even the opportunity to host Women’s Asia Cup in 2005/2006.

Fortunately, Pakistan then produces its own set of stars of the game as soon as managerial conflicts resolve.

    Stars on the Ground!

You just can’t talk about Pakistani Women’s Cricket and not mention the sisters who started it all. Shazia Khan and Sharmeen Khan. Their impact in the field might not have been felt as they had intended. However, their courage and determination is the reason why so many women and marginalized communities within the country draw their inspiration from them. To this day, all women sports in Pakistan are recognized and organized because of them. Mainly because of the brutal managerial and litigation issues these sisters resolved.

As a team, Pakistan has produced stars like Sana Mir who captained the Pakistani Women’s Cricket team for a while and took it as her duty to cement Pakistan’s place on the map as an International Women’s Cricket Team.  She ranks as number one bowler in International Women’s Cricket Council Rankings. Moreover, she led Pakistan to two gold medals in Asian Games (2010 and 2014). She is currently a commentator for Pakistan and does an eloquent job.

Nida Dar, nicknamed “Lady Boom Boom” is another star to look out for. A bowling all-rounder becoming the first to take 100 wickets in T20. We know Nida Dar for her batting firepower she unleashes for quick runs.

Javeria Khan is yet another player who rises to the occasion and delivers for the team. One of the better batters in the team, she even replaced Bismah Maroof as the captain for a tour of Sourth Africa  and World Cup Qualifiers Tournament.

Bismah Maroof, the current captain of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team is yet another player to watch out for. Holding the keys to the future of Women’s Cricket in Pakistan, she is doing a wonderful job keeping the team organized and focused. Moreover, she is a beast with the bat when given the opportunity.

    What the Future Holds

To this day, Pakistan Women’s Cricket remains the most popular team sport for women in Pakistan. Career opportunities are great. Hence, the attraction for many women to join the sport.

The sport itself is clearly steadily growing. Moreover, there is grass root level awareness as well due to the the current chairmanship of Ramiz Raja for Pakistan Cricket Board. In fact, Pakistan Cricket Board has proposed and is the most vocal advocate for more series between teams of women and a T20i World Cup for women as well. Currently, Pakistan is investing in under 21 and under 19 teams for women. While engaging other nations to develop women’s cricket as well.

Fraud: Saba Qamar comes back with another hit series

    0

Fraudsters, con-artists and scammers share an equal part in the crime community as do thieves, murderers and serial killers. Isn’t there something oddly satisfying and completely addictive about scam-oriented shows?

Interestingly, today the typical old-scheme scams seem rather quaint. More so because of our ever-evolving lives nose diving straight in the world run by: internet, sophisticated gadgets and a sneak peak in everyone’s lives via social media.

Nonetheless, scammers find their ways around it all and play with others, hiding their identities. Fraud, the new ARY drama series reveals exactly that. Not only is it entirely gripping, but it is also flawless and super exciting.

    The Storyline

Indeed, the story revolves around betrayal, lies, sham and trust issues. Interestingly, Ahsan Khan plays the role of an antagonist hailing from a lower-middle class family. Not only does he have dreams bigger than his entire house, but his entire rip-off is a secret as well. Ahsan Khan partners with Saife Hassan and Annie Zaidi (Khawar and Jahan-Ara) to con rich families.

Hence, the trio lure in rich unmarried girls and pretend to be from an affluent family. As soon as the girl’s family marries off their daughter, these scammers steal every penny and jewelry item the bride owns and run away.

However, their game must end one way or the other. Right? While this is one of the stories in Fraud, the others revolve around the female protagonist; her strength, resilience and how she makes her future.

In all honesty, I’d like to leave out a few details so that you all can watch the series without knowing any spoilers!

Saba Qamar’s comeback has the audience hooked to the screens

The amazing drama series brings back the enigmatic Saba Qamar to the screen. We are all familiar with Saba’s choice of drama serials, right? She only chooses the best storylines and plots and we just can’t get enough of her.

The star rose to fame in Dastaan, Maat, Baaghi, Cheekh and Manto. Hence, it is only fair we keep high expectations from Fraud too.

Interestingly, the show begins revealing Saba Qamar as a weak and simple girl belonging to a middle-class family. However, as things unroll and Saba Qamar becomes a victim of the con-artist, her life takes a complete u-turn.

Seeing Saba Qamar as the protagonist is nothing less than perfection. However, it is equally important to highlight Saba Qamar’s incredible acting skills throughout the series. Especially when she undergoes depression, aces anxiety attacks and crying outbursts in a heart wrenching manner on screen.

Additionally, in all fairness, the audience are hooked to the screens on weekends just to know what happens next in the show. Saba Qamar’s comeback is justice to Zanjaleeb Asim’s wiritng and Saqib Khan’s direction.

Sources reveal how Saba Qamar instantly fell in love with the drama’s script because it was intense. In December 2021, she also tweeted about falling in love with her new character. She added how she wants to bring something new to the screen so that her audience can enjoy it as much as she does.

    Ahsan Khan as the Antagonist

The stellar performance in Udaari lands him as the villain in fraud again. There is no one who can do a better job than Ahsan Khan as a fraudster because he aces his acting skills. The cunning eyes, the change of expression, dialogue delivery in Punjabi and Urdu, the body language and everything in between; this character is right down Ahsan Khan’s alley. Moreover, the way he masters the dual roles is beyond amazing.

    Mikaal Zulifqar as Shaan

Mikaal Zulifqar’s role is rather run of the mill in this series. He doesn’t really appear in the first few episodes. His story keeps building on a different path until his collides with Saba Qamar’s. He plays the role of a divorced rich father, who has trust issues and cannot move forward in life because of them.

     Asma Abbas as Shaan’s Step-mother

Asma Abbas has jelled in her role as Shaan’s step mother is a wonderful way. She is effortless, natural and totally looks the part. She belongs to a rich family, wears the right clothes and carries them well.

Her character also has a dual role. But both sides describe how protecting her assets for her well being is not a choice but a compulsion. She loves Shaan, encourages him and tries to show him the bright side. However, she also conspires with her daughter to assert her control in Shaan’s life and over his assets.

High Points of the Series that make it stand out from the rest

I am loving the series so far because it is pleasing to the eye and the storyline is great. However, here are a few high points I want to share with you all that truly make me want to wait for the next episode.

    • Firstly, the way the drama series begins is awesome. The start is paced right, being neither too slow nor too fast.
    • The shots are designed in a way to look deeper into each character’s life without overpowering their presence.
    • The relationship between Nisar and his sister show how special the bond is. Moreover, how a misunderstanding can affect its fragility immediately.
    • The rush of emotions takes the cake because each episode is the right dose of passion, sadness, happiness and more.
    • The series points out how prevalent it is is for parents in getting their daughters married to rich people. Without noting the consequences the deal can bring.
    • The acting! All the actors in the series except Shaan’s daughter play the part impeccably. Ahsan Khan in his devious role is perfect, while Saba Qamar keeps her head high as a protagonist. Shaan (Mikaal Zulfiqar) is also jelling in nicely so far.
    • Justice being served at the right time. I for one hate drama series that drag on for no reason. Fraud is definitely not that. You will feel satisfied after watching each episode.
    • Rabia Kulsoom plays the best supporting role in the series and we simply love her happy go lucky attitude.
    • The OST (original sound track) is catchy too. It kind of sticks to you while you cook, clean or run around the house and notice you are humming it!

Get to know your favorite Pakistani Cricket Players

    0

We are all far too familiar with the greats that won Pakistan the 1992 Cricket World Cup in Australia. Unfortunately, Pakistan’s cricket team has since then experienced so many nosedives that we have been unable to create stars out of the men and women who put out their hearts on the field.

However, we must acknowledge and cherish the current Pakistani cricket team who have made this game an event that the entire family watches and enjoys together, once again. Therefore, we at Curryflow deem it our responsibility to share a sneak peek into who these amazing athletes are; for your next adrenaline fueled discussion with your friends after a match.

    Babar Azam

The man who put Pakistan back into the Top 10 rankings of men’s batting again! Babar Azam is hailed by fans as “Bobby King” and commentators as “The Poet”. Interestingly, Babar has the potential to be one of the greatest batsmen to ever play the game.

Not only that! Babar is the skipper for all three formats of cricket for Pakistan. He has been awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan. In fact, his cover drive has been featured in Pakistan’s 9th Grade Physics books to teach “Energy” to students. Moreover, Babar is still young (27) and hopefully has a long career ahead of him. He has the makings of a legend!

    Shadab Khan

Currently, he is the vice-captain of the Pakistani side in T20s and ODIs. Shadab Khan seems to have made a solid spot in the team for a long time to come. He joined the team mainly as a leg-spinner. But, with immense improvement with the bat, he has now started to bat up the order as well. Even experienced commentators refer to him as an all-rounder.

While he may not look the part, this youngster is a beast on the field. Moreover, as far as looks and boyish charms go, the young lad has a huge female following. He is one of those rare gems who are just as entertaining on the field as they are off the field.

    Rizwan Khan

Don’t fall for his sheepish looks. He is anything but. As flexible and brilliant as he is with the gloves (wicket-keeping), this 30 year old has had bowlers and captains of opposing teams scratching their heads for far too long now.

Simply put, he is a burst of energy and he is hungry for runs. Together, Rizwan and Babar have restored the faith of their fans in Pakistani batting. One of the reasons is Rizwan’s ability to bat from the start of the innings and take it as deep as possible into the innings, and he does that by constantly rotating the strike and sprinkling some big hits when he gets the chance. Apart from that, He is a breath of fresh air as Pakistan leaves behind an era of make-do arrangements for wicket-keepers.

    Shaheen Shah Afridi

Pakistan has provided way beyond its fair share of pace bowlers. The two Ws, Shoaib Akhtar, Imran Khan and the likes. That era seemed to be long gone for a while when the team struggled with permanent slots for pace attack in the team.  Then came this tall hunk, Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Fierce pace with a pinch of swing! This fellow has the ability to give a breakthrough to his team in the very first over he bowls in every match in the form of the opposing team’s wickets. He is the skipper for Lahore Qalandars and has joined County Cricket in England as well.

While the 22 year old has a habit of dismantling stumps, he broke even more hearts when he announced his engagement with another legend’s (Shahid Afridi) daughter. He is the pace the opposition fears.

    Haris Rauf

Shaheen Shah Afridi’s partner in crime. Bowling from the other end is this 28 year old pacer, Haris Rauf. Hailing from Rawalpindi, he has had the experience of playing league cricket around the world in a very short period of time.

He debuted for Pakistan in 2020 and since then, he has shown serious improvements when it comes to pace and swing. He has also developed a very good situational awareness of the game and is getting into the habit of bowling on just the right spots. With an ability to get wickets when the team needs it, he is an ideal bowling partner for Shaheen and vice versa.

    Muhammad Nawaz

Starting off as a medium fast bowler about 14 years ago, Nawaz soon realized his true calling. Left arm orthodox spin bowling and absolutely mind boggling hitting of the ball with the bat all around the ground. He hasn’t been a regular in the national side for very long but he has a very decorated domestic cricket career.

Apart from that, he is very valuable to cricket leagues around the world as well for T20 tournaments. He has slowly but surely solidified his position in the national team as a very dependable bowler who is not very expensive and a batsman who the team can rely on to finish the games in crunch situations. Given the right exposure, this all-rounder has all the signs of a superstar in making.

    Popular Sports in Pakistan

    0

Pakistan has a rich sporting history and is home to a diverse range of sports. Interestingly, Pakistan has seen golden days for different sports with the nationals cheering for their sporting heroes.

The lush geography of Pakistan allows people to play a diverse variety of sports on all sorts of terrains. Moreover, good interconnectivity and infrastructure between cities easily allow inter-city battles, tournaments, and even international competitions.

However, some sports saw a downfall with time in terms of popularity. Nonetheless, while the trends might have altered, the truth remains that Pakistanis love sports; whether it is a friendly challenge on the streets or an international level rivalry.

Here’s a list of the most popular sports we play in Pakistan and are really good at.

    Cricket

Definitely, the Pakistani nations adopted national sport! Our country is packed with cricket-fanatic fans that make every tournament played by the side a nationwide festival. Pakistan is a formidable side of the globe. As of today, Pakistan has played 444 test matches, of which winning 145, losing 135, and drawing 164. Moreover, our team has played 939 ODIs.

Pakistan cricket was dealt a huge blow when a chain reaction to a terrorist attack resulted in no international matches being played inside the country for a decade. However, international teams have started to tour Pakistan again. Exciting competitions like the PSL (Pakistan Super League) and The Quaid e Azam trophy have also started gaining international acknowledgment and appreciation. The jam packed stadiums in every match are an example.

Gladly, cricket is becoming an even more exciting sport now that the top-flight cricketers from around the globe are joining our field. Warren Deutrom the CEO of Cricket Ireland said “The courtesy, the generosity, the hospitality, the warmth, the love of cricket is plainly obvious for anyone to see.” when he visited the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore.

    Hockey

Field hockey is Pakistan’s national game. The first match took place in 1948. However, unfortunately, we have witnessed the decline of hockey today. This sport has given us three Olympic gold medals and 4 world cups. The golden era lasted from 1970to 1984.

Unfortunately, the poor performance of the hockey federation and the declining resources needed for the sport have resulted in its downfall. Moreover, the lack of stardom is also another contributing factor.

    Tennis

Tennis is another amazing sport Pakistanis play. Indeed, the urban class of Pakistan watches tennis enthusiastically because we have so many Federer, Nadal and Djokovic fans.

While many play tennis in Pakistan, it is true that we have very few professional players for the sport. While Aisam Ul Haq has made his presence felt in both Men’s Singles and Doubles, players like Haroon Rahim and Aqeel Khan have started to raise eyebrows as well. The lack of infrastructure, professional training and clubs are contributing reasons. However, we have many amateur players in the country.

    Golf

The Pakistan Golf Federation is funded by the government which in turn provides various clubs, associations and competitions to the individuals. There are approximately 48 private golf clubs with over 18000 members.

Moreover, golf is one sport you will see men play aged above 40. The oldies have many golf tournaments in different cities while their wives enjoy watching it from a distance.

    Kabaddi

Kabbadi is one of the most popular sports in Pakistan for good reason. It is played in various rural parts of the country. It is quite similar to wrestling, but you have mud as your arena and the rules are rather different.

The Pakistan Kabaddi Federation was founded in 1964. Since then it has flourished and landed the players in the international arena. Therefore, the best part about Kabaddi is the cheering. The breathless calls of ‘Kabbaddi, kabbaddi, kabbaddi’ are truly rejuvenating.

Pakistan has won 6 bronze medals and 2 silver medals in Asian Games. They have also won the world cup in 2020. Our top kabaddi players are Shabir Ahmed and Hassan Ali.

    Squash

It might not be at its peak right now but to date, the success rate of Pakistan in Squash is unmatchable to any other country in the world. Indeed, especially during the deadly reigns of Squash legends Jansher Khan and Jehangir Khan. The latter still holds the record of the towering winning streak of 555 consecutive matches in the world.

While Pakistan still hosts international tournaments and has a rather developed infrastructure, newer generations of players are yet to reach even close to the magnificence of their seniors.

    Badminton

Badminton is one of my favorite games. it is a popular sport in Pakistan because all you need is rackets, a shuttle cock, and two players. Not only will you witness almost everyone playing badminton in their backyard, but you will also see professional badminton players from Pakistan.

Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) is the backbone of badminton in Pakistan and it was formed in 1953. Apparently, Awais Zahid and Mahoor Shahzad are Pakistani national champions. Mahnoor Shahzad has won twice in women’s singles and came as a runner-up twice in women’s doubles in BWF international challenge.

    Polo

Polo runs in the northern areas of Pakistan. While we have different versions of the sport, Pakistan hosts a number of international-level championships and tournaments annually. Interestingly, the Shandur Polo festival is the most recognized festival in Pakistan that attract people from around the globe.

Rides from all around the world train and compete in Pakistan. Indeed the shandur festival happens from 7-9th July in the Chitral district. Pakistani military encourages and invests in equestrian activities; hence a large number of such competitions are hosted in different cantonments and arenas facilitated by the military of the country.

    Boxing

Everyone loves Amir Khan, right? Pakistani fans are spread across the country rooting for him when he plays. Moreover, since he has Pakistani descent, his visits to the country really encourage young blood to train well, participate and compete. Considerably, Pakistani players are mastering their performances adequately in international boxing competitions.

Pakistan Boxing Federation invests in the players and trains them well. Karachi has one of the best boxing clubs in the country.

    Table Tennis

When it comes to international recognition, table tennis is one of the least professional sports in Pakistan. However, you will witness various amateurs playing table tennis in clubs, universities, and even homes. Apparently, the cost involved is pretty low, and hence many youngsters want to play it and master the game.

    Snooker

Snooker is one of the most loved sports in our country. Mohammad Asif represents Pakistan internationally. He has won twice in the amateur IBSF world snooker championship.

However, interestingly Ahsan Ramzan is the new hero from Pakistan. He is the youngest player hailing from Karachi at only 16 years of age. He is the youngest to win a trophy for the country in IBSF world snooker championship.

    Shooting

The National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) is the national backbone for shooting in Pakistan. Lt. General (R) Alam Jan Mehsud NRAP restored the sport in 1986 and till date, we have the best shooters hailing from the country who compete in international matches.

Today, Ghulam Mustafa Bashir remains the best shooter from Pakistan. Moreover, the Pakistan army soldiers won the international sniping and shooting competition in Beijing among 21 teams from 14 countries. If you enjoy shooting, you should check out the Cholistan cup event in southern Punjab that showcases a safe and exciting gun culture.

On their first day in Pakistan, she wore a beautiful traditional blue kurta with straight pants and a flowing dupatta. Additionally, her dress had white Pakistani embroidery and it was from Maheen Khan. Later, she wore a beautiful Chitrali jacket and hat made by local vendors. Moreover, she wore a black and white dress by Elan.

Again, Deepika Padukone was also seen wearing Faraz Manan. Interestingly, Deepika shared pictures donning an elegant ivory sari created by Faraz Manan. Surprisingly, Deepika Padukone as well as Faraz Manan received a lot of love from the fans.

Indeed, Deepika looked absolutely gorgeous carrying an intricately designed sari. She went for smokey eyes and paired the ensemble with emerald earrings.

    Gigi Hadid

9 reasons why you should watch the Pakistani drama ‘Sinf e Ahan’

    0

.As Diane Mariechild states, ‘A woman is a full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform’. This saying fits like a puzzle for the heart-wrenching series Sinf e Ahan; witnessing women as protagonists rather than victims is the ideal ray of sunshine Pakistani women need; at least when it comes to entertainment.

Gone are the boring days when observing women as victims hyped the audience. The amount of bichargi of women as a means of leisure is not only draining but extremely melancholic too. Interestingly, Sinf e Ahan is the complete opposite. Maybe that is why it came under the spotlight instantly and rightly so.

Sinf e Ahan is one of those particular rare series that triggered a great deal of interest on a global level since the trailer came out. Arguably, there is not a single reason it wouldn’t.

Hence, before giving you guys the top 9 reasons why you should watch the series, here’s a little introduction about it.

    Introduction to Sinf e Ahan

The story revolves around 5 Pakistani women from all walks of life. Interestingly, all of them abandon typical female duties and routines and instead follow their dream to join the Pakistan Army. Above all, all the 5 women are highly educated with a Master’s degree and opt for a life that is more than just spending time in the kitchen.

Each initial teaser of the series sheds light on each woman, her background, her family, and her life before joining the army. Right off the bat, the first episode did justice to the teasers’ promise by elaborating their personal stories further and capturing everyone’s attention instantly. Further, the series grows in all directions revealing how one can achieve anything if they dream big and differently.

Moreover, you will learn so much about the Pakistan army through this series that your heart will warm up with joy. Indeed it is extremely endearing to witness headstrong women hand-in-hand, fighting for the same cause, all in a very positive way.

Now that I’ve set a base for the series, let me tell you why you should definitely watch it if you still haven’t.

    1.     It is the first Positive Women Centric Series

Indeed, Sinf e Ahan is a refreshing program to watch because of its positivity and lightness on the eyes. Most importantly because it shows women as strong, powerful, talented, educated protagonists rather than weak victims. What I love is how it only revolves around women, their thoughts, and even looks at their families and fiancés from their perspective. Surprisingly, it is perfect for all girls from all age groups because it is clean, sweet and totally adorable.

    2.     The Diversity of Character Backgrounds is great

From the first trailer of Sinf e Ahan, we as fans know about all the backgrounds the main characters hail from. It is so interesting how so many girls have the same dream even when their family setups are a world apart. Hence, the character diversity not only adds depth to this show but also reveals how one can achieve anything even without finances, family support, etc.

Therefore, it is important to mention Pariwarsh from Balochistan and Shaista from Peshawar. Even though both the girls had a very basic setup, zero luxuries, and minimal family support; both hold onto their dreams and prove that a Pakistani girl is an iron lady!

    3.     Proves there is more to women than just Marriage

Did you know marriage was practiced more to strengthen political alliances rather than as an act of love? Marriage as a constitution is great, however, when it comes to Pakistani women, the notion denies women’s independent existence. Wives are expected to merely cook, clean, raise children, take care of in-laws, and accept everything the husband states.

Fortunately, the times are changing and Pakistani women can see there are so many career options instead of just getting married. Sinf e Ahan promotes this positive message for parents who just want to get their daughters married. Shaista’s family wanted her to marry, and she got engaged but in the end, she chose Army as her career. Eventually, her family saw her point was valid. I love how the drama is spreading such a positive message for girls regarding marriages.

    4.     A great insight into the Pakistan Army

Everyone loves Pak Army. Clearly, witnessing the institution in Mujahid, Alpha Bravo Charlie, Ehd e Wafa and now Sinf e Ahan gives one a sense of pride for the country and unconditional love for the men who fight to protect it. Sinf e Ahan has the same aura once you watch it. The discipline, manners, time management, uniformity, equality, respect of the hierarchy and everything in between is simply admirable.

One truly learns how much effort the Pakistan Military Academy puts in to create Pak soldiers like none other. Sinf e Ahan shows it beautifully indeed.

    5.     Men and women are treated equally in the Army

Most people might believe that routines are different for men and women. The rooms are more comfortable for women while they are tougher and less cozy for men. Clearly, ragging new male cadets must be extraordinarily bizarre while ragging female cadets must be something simplistic and easy to follow. Once you watch Sinf e Ahan, not only every question becomes clear, but one learns how equality is key in PMA. Oh boy! Do I love this- yes!

Finally, men and women treat as equals. They are given equal opportunities, equal training and an equal amount of equipment. There is no discrimination between the genders either. Applaud worthy indeed.

    6.     The screenplay, script, and acting are awesome

Do you agree that some Pakistani dramas are so ordinary when it comes to scriptwriting, acting, and even screenplay that you feel you’ve seen the entire series before? Heck, maybe you can put 4-5 different series in the same category! In particular, Sinf e Ahan is absolutely unique, out-of-the-box and maybe this is one of the many reasons I love it. It doesn’t show any Saas Bahu feuds and doesn’t paint a sorrowful picture.

The script is a breeze of fresh air. After all, Umera Ahmad jots it down. Nadeem Baig directs it while  Humayun Saeed and Samina Humayun are the producers.

The series gives a happy vibe and is easy to comprehend.

    7.     It is a Fast-paced series and is extremely engaging

I for one can never watch a series if it doesn’t click in the first 2 episodes. Sinf e Ahan is truly binge-worthy. Interestingly, my mother-in-law and I binge-watched the first 12 episodes on YouTube, till we came at par with the rest of the audience waiting for weekly episodes.

Indeed it has a fast pace. It doesn’t drag, doesn’t lag, and engages the attention nicely. You literally anticipate the next scene and take a breath of sad sigh as soon as the episode ends.

    8.     The real iron lady Major Samia Rehman joins the cast

Well, this point has to be one of the top points from the series. Major Samia Rehman stars in this series and we love it. She served under the United Nations wearing our Pakistan flag for a peacekeeping mission. Interestingly, a team of 15 female officers was chosen for this mission.

Witnessing a real major in the series is a sight for sore eyes. Moreover, Major Samia Rehman is a married officer with an adorable son in the drama. Seeing how she dedicates all her time to the country’s benefit and doesn’t care about cooking, cleaning, and taking care of her son is something we all needed to see.

Above all, the major’s mother-in-law plays a cute role when she goes the extra mile to take care of her meals. It is something beautiful every Pakistani saas should see and probably follow!

    9.     All the Fathers of the series are super supportive

Believe it or not, this is another aspect why I totally love the series. Interestingly, all the fathers are very supportive and emotionally bond with their daughters and make the audience teary- but in a good day!

It is great to see the daddies cheering for their girls, hugging them, giving them hopeful speeches, and feeling proud of their daughters. We live in a country where mothers are always closer to the children and fathers usually stay outside the house. I simply love how this series is showing a different perspective.

4 Gripping Pakistani Dramas Women can relate to

    0

Modern times call for modern alterations in Pakistani dramas. Luckily, the trajectory of the Pakistani media industry is making a shift towards highlighting women as protagonists instead of portraying them as victims of domestic violence. Moreover, gone are the weird days when women were mainly highlighted as eye candy without the knowledge of acting.

Today, Pakistani female actors take center stage, all because of their caliber, acting skills, on-screen presence, and talent. Fortunately, the women of 2022 refuse to balk from accepting challenging storylines, recognizing women-centric roles or participating in dramas based on socially taboo topics.

Women are strong and witnessing something on television that is realistic and relatable makes a huge difference for the masses. Hence, here’s to the top 4 amazing women-centric drama series that break stereotypes.

    Akhri Station

This insightful series features 7 women from different backgrounds who are all victims of physical abuse. Moreover, they all break the chain and stand up for their rights, adding another common factor in all the women.

Directed and created by Sarmad Khoosat, this beautiful series is jotted down by Amna Mufti. Interestingly, this women-centric series highlights the prevailing problems in our society faced by women as a whole. Whether it is the Saas-bahu feud, the husband being abusive, or the patriarchal set up as a whole that believes unmarried girls are a burden on families.

Fortunately, all 7 strong-willed actors are not portrayed as helpless victims. Rather, they show taking a stand for themselves, breaking barriers, and sending a positive message to the women of Pakistan. While they have gone through a lot of hardships, each girl’s story gives a lesson to the men and women watching this show.

If you still haven’t seen it, check it out on Youtube because you will love it. The cast includes Anam Gohar, Nimra Bucha, Sanam Saeed, and Malaika Zafar.

    Sinf e Ahan

Sinf e Ahan is one of the incredible Pakistani series that generates an overwhelming interest from the audience. Firstly, drama series featuring the Army Cadet life have always gathered more traction and interest from the demographic. Secondly, arguably, mostly because everyone is sick and tired of the stereotypical domestic-problems-based series. Hence, Sinf e Ahan is the perfect positive break everyone needs as an audience.

Indeed, Mahjabeen (Kubra Khan), Rabia (Sajal Aly), Shaista (Yumna Zaidi), Pariwesh (Ramsha Khan), Arzoo (Syra Yousaf) and Sidra (Dananeer) induct into Pakistan Military Academy as cadets. While most people believe there is a difference in physical training and strictness when it comes to male and female cadets, Sinf e Ahan tells the truth through each episode that it is not.

Above all, this ISPR project is perfect for building a strong and independent narrative for the women of Pakistan. The title of the series says it all. Sinf e Ahan means ‘Women of Steel’ while generally Pakistani women are pointed towards as ‘Sinf e Nazuk’ (delicate).

Each episode shows how powerful these female cadets are, despite the fact that some of them belong to villages with no real means of education, class, exposure, etc. Most importantly, how the majority of them belong to families with closed mindsets who don’t believe nor invest in their daughters. Rather, only in the male figures of the household.

Sinf e Ahan gives hope to girls, encourages them to take a stand for their rights, persuades them to study, and supports their dreams of becoming an Army girl. Truly, all is possible if you work in the right direction. This drama series shows exactly that.

    Baaghi

Qandeel Baloch was a former social media blogger, a sensation that roared up from a small town to come under the spotlight. However, Qandeel Baloch, also known as QB got murdered by her brother in the name of honor killing.

Unfortunately, he strangled his sister to conserve the ‘family’s honor. Hence, Baaghi is a drama series, rather a biopic of Qandeel Baloch where we live her life through the story.

Saba Qamar takes the lead role as the protagonist. Interestingly, Saba Qamar can take up any role and alter her acting abilities to fit the character perfectly. Consequently, Baaghi won various awards because the entire team behind the series did a great job.

Baaghi shows how Qandeel Baloch escapes the abusive relationship with her husband. Moreover, she doesn’t allow anyone to be abusive, emotionally or physically again. The entire series works towards showing how women should be independent, strong, and never take bullshit from anyone. Moreover, Baaghi also revokes the idea of honor killing and reveals it as mere murder. How there is nothing honorable about it.

If you are in for an intense series, Baaghi is the best one.

    Khudgarz

Khudgarz is another amazing drama series from 2017. It features Aminah Sheikh and Mansha Pasha as the lead characters. Syed Jibran and Sami Khan support them as co-actors.

Khudgarz highlights a story revolving around love, betrayal, selfishness, and how everything affects one psychologically. The writer shows a contrast between two different couples and their married life. It highlights how both the wives are physically and mentally abused by their husbands. Nonetheless, one decides to give up and remain in the abusive marriage while the other breaks chains and runs free.

Does Abeer feel differently about her rights as a wife? Or is Salma taught to bear her husband’s abuse from a typical Pakistani mindset? Is Abeer too wayward or is Salma too backward? I guess you will have to watch to find out.

Khudgarz is a drama series that highlights the prevalent household problem of domestic violence in a great way. Moreover, it also shows the solution and how women can take a stand and shift their life in the right direction.

Can you add more drama series to this list? Comment below.

9 Raunchy Comedy Movies on Netflix for a good laugh

    0
Donny Berger (Adam Sandler) and Todd Peterson (Andy Samberg) in Columbia Pictures' comedy THAT'S MY BOY.

The legendary comedian Lenny Bruce once said, “The only honest art form is laughter, comedy. You can’t fake it”. While some classic comedy films are all-out crowd-pleasers, on the other hand, some will tickle every funny bone you own.

Nonetheless, if you ask the person sitting next to you about their top favorite comedy movies, the list will likely differ from yours. That is because comedy as a genre is subjective. Whether you prefer stand-up comedy shows, girly rom-coms or college boy action-packed raunchy comics, we have got you covered.

Whatever your comic speed is, here’s a list of the top super funny and engaging comedy movies available on Netflix to stream with a hint of raunchiness! After all, laughter is the best medicine!

    Wedding Crashers

Only a few films click and stay with you for years to come. Wedding Crashers from 2005 is definitely that. It is hilarious, equally funny for men and women, and who can beat the Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson combo!

When two womanizers plan to gatecrash every wedding in town to hook up with random chicks, they land on one final wedding where their lives completely alter. Apparently, one of the dudes falls head over heels for the senator’s daughter. However, the other has to play as his wingman and score another bridesmaid. How things unravel should remain a mystery. Watch this awesome comedy flick because it is definitely worth the fun.

    Tower Heist

Featuring Eddy Murphy, Cassey Affleck, Ben Stiller, and Mathew Broderick, Tower Heist is one of the top comedy movies available on Netflix. Apparently, this 2011 film scored $152.9 million in the box office.

The story revolves around a group of men scammed by a super-wealthy businessman. When they all realize they are in the same boat, they all plan a heist against him. Interestingly, it goes wrong on so many levels but falls into place eventually. The entire process and planning are hilarious! I mean, you have Eddy Murphy on board; the script has to tickle every funny bone you have.

    I Spy

Eddy Murphy and Owen Wilson pair together for this classic comedy from 2002. Interestingly, the story spins around a professional athlete who helps a US Government agent recover a missing jet. I mean, who comes up with such entertaining storylines?

Nonetheless, on the other hand, a few reviews state that it’s a shame Owen Wilson and Eddy Murphy are wasted on a ho-hum project. Murphy and Wilson remake a show from the 1960s and play as Kelly Robinson and Alexander Scott. Again, the reviews state that the remake is in no way similar to the original show.

Nonetheless, I can easily say that you should check it out if you want a good laugh.

    Super Bad

If you are searching for something super bawdy, profane, and insanely funny, it doesn’t get better than Super Bad. This was destined to be a hit because it was marketed mainly to the teens. This 2007 raunchy comedy is perfect for all the youngsters who want to spend their weekend well away from the worries of studies.

Jonnah Hill, Michael Cera, and Christopher Mintz come together as 3 best friends on their last day of high school looking for a good time by hooking up with girls. However, losing their virginity and scoring booze is their main agenda. Will they succeed? Or will the plan entirely fall apart? Watch this amazing comedy-packed flick because it is super good..no. Super Bad!

    Bad Neighbors

Bad Neighbors is the perfect balance between family and friends when it comes to this movie. Apparently, Seth Rogan, a family man pits against his neighbor Zack Effron, the fraternity leader. Above all, Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan play as Kelly and Mac; a couple that has just shifted in their dream home in the suburbs. However, their plan to relax and raise their baby maturely goes down the drain because guess what? The Frat boy lives next door and how can he pass on a good opportunity to party!

To put an end to the hustle, party, noise, and young crowd, the couple must put on their spy gear, and takedown Teddy without him knowing it. How does the movie go again? I guess you need to watch it to find out how cool it is.

    Disjointed

Love marijuana? This movie is for you. Apparently, Ruth, a longtime advocate for the legislation of marijuana gets a chance of her life when she becomes the owner of the biggest cannabis dispensary. That’s one way to own what you love, right? Two ‘budtenders’ help her and you can pretty much guess the fact that they stay high while working. Who wouldn’t, right?

Hence, as high as they are, things don’t go as planned. This is what makes it all too funny. It gets a little scary too! Enjoy this sitcom played by Kathy Bates, Aaron Clifton, and Dougie Baldwin.

    That’s My Boy

This is definitely a new foray into raunchy comedy and straight out of the PG 13 category for Adam Sandler. Interestingly, the movie revolves around Adam Sandler fathering a son in his teens to raise him as a single parent until he turns 18. Unfortunately, he cuts all ties loose, only to land on his son’s wedding day to put Andy Samberg’s life in a tailspin.

Donny, the father now wants to reconnect with his son Todd badly. However, he must face the harsh reality of bad parenting he did during the past. Is the movie funny and engaging? Definitely is. Go stream it now on Netflix.

    Just Go with it

Just Go with it has to be my favorite comedy movie of all time. I mean, how often do you see Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston together! Fortunately, this awesome romantic comedy has all the ingredients needed to make a classic, light-hearted film. It is an amalgamation of juvenile fun, double-meaning jokes, scatological humor, pratfalls, and sexist jokes.

So basically the story circles around a forty-something plastic surgeon, Danny Maccabee, who is ugly and has a huge nose. This is one of the reasons his fiancé cheats on him and he calls off the wedding. He changes his face and becomes handsome. Apparently, he keeps his engagement ring with him to score women by telling them a sob story about his special day.

However, he falls in love with a beautiful young girl, but his famous ring story doesn’t work. Now, he must take Jennifer Aniston’s, his assistant’s help. The duo act as a divorced couple with two happy kids to portray a perfect family with a feud. How the fake couple comes close and falls in love with each other is beautiful. This is an amazing movie full of laughter and fun filmed in Hawaii.

    Dostana

Dostana simply had to make it to our list today because it is hilarious when it comes to raunchy jokes, spicy and juicy songs, and amazing acting skills. John Abraham, Abhishek Bachan, and Priyanka Chopra come together as 3 best friends in this wonderful movie.

When Priyanka Chopra offers 2 bedrooms for rent, but only wants females to occupy it, Sam and Kunal concoct a story to grab the opportunity instead. Surprisingly, the boys claim to be a gay couple looking for a decent living space. Upon hearing this, Neha’s aunt approves them and allows them to stay in the apartment as tenants.

However, the boys must curb their feelings for Neha because of their fake story about being gay. How the story unravels is super funny and the songs to compliment the situations are even better. Looking for a fun-filled flick? This is the one.
