6 Reasons we all love Maya Ali

    0

Tons of actors pave their way into the Pakistani Media Industry every year but only a few secure their mark in the hearts of zillion fans. Some are gorgeous while others are filled with talent. Some enter the glamorous world via family names while others start from the bottom. Whatever the case, the truth is that hard work, consistency, friendly nature and a committing attitude is what it takes to reach the top.

Accordingly, Maya Ali fits the perfect description of an avid actor we all love. Interestingly, she started slow and low, but rose to the top with good looks, an awesome attitude, and stood ground.

Here’s appreciating Maya Ali and taking notes on the top 6 reasons why she is the talk of the town.

From Vj to TV Actress to Movie Star

Maryam Tanveer Ali, more popularly known as Maya Ali was an average girl as a teenager. She was born into a strict household. She would go to school, later play basketball and come home as we all did as children.

However, Maya Ali paved her way into the Pakistani media industry by saying ‘Yes’ to every opportunity she got. Indeed, when she was interning after her Mass Communications degree at a production house, a TV host left the spot open. Apparently upon asking her to fill it, she somehow terribly failed the audition.

Nonetheless, she hosted a program at PTV wonderfully later. She became a VJ for a few years and opted to become an actress as soon as the door to success opened up.

Besides awesome TV dramas such as Dyar-e-dil, Mann Mayal and Pehli si Mohabbat, Maya Ali also featured in Pakistani movies. They include Teefa in Trouble and Parey Hut Love. Moreover, she received the best drama actress award in 2017 for Mann Mayal. Moreover, The IPPA award for best actor female in 2019 for Teefa in Trouble.

She shifts all exterior negativity into positivity

Another amazing quality she possesses is how she shifts all the negative comments into positive energy to make a cool comeback.

She mentioned in an interview how her colleagues made fun of her when she failed her first audition. She was auditioning for a TV host for Samaa TV. Instead of shutting in, she tried even harder and secured the spot within days.

On the other hand, she worked with Khawar Riaz for a still photography campaign. Apparently, he exclaimed how Maya can never be an actress because of her bulkiness. Can you guess what Maya Ali did?

She took the comment positively and worked out to lose weight. Later, she auditioned for Haissam Hussain and debuted in Durr-e-Shahwar alongside Sanam Baloch.

    Isn’t her attitude absolutely inspiring?

She is Humble, Friendly and Easy to work with

Unlike many other actresses in the same industry, Maya Ali is humble, down to earth and a friendly person to work with. Interestingly, she always works with a positive attitude, be it in feature films or Pakistani dramas. Her colleagues reveal how reading lines with her is very comfortable. Also, she never creates a fuss about her makeup, choice of clothes, or her resting spots while shooting.

Additionally, she always meets her fans with open arms and is not pompous at all. Check out her awesome song alongside Shehryar Munawar. This girl has some serious moves!

    Maya Ali is very Ambitious

Even though she belongs to a very strict family, she chose a path to gain the spotlight because she is ambitious and determined. She mentioned in an interview in Rewind with Samina Peerzada that she loves living in a fantasy world and cannot stop dreaming about her future. Interestingly, she also added how she loved talking to her dolls and to herself in the mirror.

Indeed, she loves taking everyone’s opinions and insights but always does what her heart tells her to do. Maya stated that she thinks and takes final decisions right before hitting the bed every day.

She aces her dramas and movies but she equally shines bright in TV commercials. Maya Ali is the Brand Ambassador for Shuaukat Khanum Cancer hospital and the same for Quetta Gladiators. Moreover, she also worked for brands including Lux, QMobile, Sprite, and Diva.

    She is a True Foodie

Believe it or not, Maya Ali is a true foodie at heart. She prefers non-vegetarian food and loves eating everything. Her favorite food includes Aloo ka Paratha, Biryani, and Pizza. However, she equally enjoys other cuisines.

She is Bubbly, Sweet and even Naughty

Can you imagine Maya Ali being naughty? Well, here’s a small insight into her childhood. Apparently, her brother Affan and Maya Ali went door to door to ring bells, only to run away and tease all the neighbors!

Also, most people don’t know how Maya was a tom-boy as a kid. She would rather play basketball and cycle around instead of playing with dolls indoor. However, she did own dolls!

Additionally, long ago during her childhood, Maya Ali called out her father’s name ‘Tanveer’ to pick at him and actually received a tight slap as a token of disapproval.

There’s no shortage of epic shows on Netflix today. However, not being able to choose the one you should follow through with becomes daunting over time. While your friends may recommend a bunch of shows, in the end, your manly opinion is what matters the most.

So here are the top picks for Desi Men to binge watch and enjoy regardless of age.

My husband binge-watched Peaky Blinders till all the seasons completed. However, he mentioned the story dragged by the last few episodes.

Apparently the crime boss Tommy Shelby leads a notorious gang in Birmingham in 1919. Since the criminal activities by the Peaky blinders increase at an outrageous rate, Chester Campbell, an inspector decides to nab him out and put an end to the crimes. This series stars Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson, and Helen McCrory.

If you enjoy crime-based series, this show is perfect for you.

    Lupin

Lupin is an incredible breakout heist series on Netflix. Interestingly it is based on the adventures of Arsène Lupin. In particular, Assane Diop organizes a plot to pinch an expensive diamond necklace from an auction at the Louvre.

Moreover, the story revolves around different plots where Assane sets his direction to avenge his father for an injustice made to him by a rich family. Additionally, George Kay is the creator of this series while Omar Sy stars wonderfully in the series.

If you are willing to read the subtitles to this French series, enjoy watching it because everyone loves it.

    Lucifer

This is a mild adaption of the Lucifer comic book series. Lucifer shifts to Los Angeles when he gets bored as the Lord of Hell. Apparently, the Devil himself initiates an inviting nightclub, but meets a detective and falls head over heels for her.

Later, he helps Chloe Decker (the detective) solve murders and other crimes by getting secrets out of the criminals in his own incredible ways. To sum it up, Tom Ellis and Lauren German make the perfect duo for this series produced by Alex Katsnelson.

    Ozark

With an 8.4 IMDB rating, Ozark is one series that gained the spotlight right away. It is suspenseful, engaging and can be enjoyed by couples too.

This series features Jason Bateman as Marty who is a happily married man and a father of two. Additionally, the story unravels when a money-laundering scheme goes down the drain. Marty, gets indirectly involved and is liable to pay a substantial amount of debt in order to get criminals off his back. Hence, he shifts his family to a resort in the Ozarks and things begin to unfold in interesting ways.

    House of Cards

House of Cards goes back to 2013 but it is a super recommendation if you haven’t seen it yet. This series received an 8.7/10 IMDB rating too. Need I say more?

    Narcos

Netflix displays the kingpins and drug lords of Columbia from the ’80s dealing in the cocaine trade. Interestingly, Pablo Escobar features the series in a powerful way. On the other hand, the law enforcement to eradicate him and his activities are all showcased in a gritty way.

This 3 season series is dark, powerful, engaging and suspenseful to watch.

    Suits

No law skills? No worries. You can equally enjoy this dramady because it is witty and cool. When Mike Ross impresses Harvey with his charm, intelligence, and sharp skills, he instantly hires him in his firm as an associate.

Nonetheless, the real catch is that Mike doesn’t have a law degree and doesn’t really know how he landed the job! Harvey sure thinks he aced his law degree.

The series is fun, casual and if you in for a light show you can watch while working, this is the one.

    Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad has to be the best show to date for both men and women. Indeed, Breaking Bad made television history when all fans faced mixed emotions watching the thrilling, emotional, suspenseful, and informative series. Moreover, it never gets old.

The American writer Vince Gilligan created a world step by step, by keeping even the smallest detail in perspective. The deeply flawed, yet genius Walter White is also known as Heisenberg is a protagonist everyone loves. Sadly the awesome Chemistry teacher finds out he has cancer. Being hard on cash, he decides to secretly initiate a meth-making business by partnering up with his a-grade student.

Sure, the money that comes in is great but since his priorities shift, everything becomes a mess over time. I highly recommend this series because it is over the moon. You should definitely watch it.

    The last dance

Following the great rise of Chicago Bulls from the ’90s, The Last Dance has become one of the most popular shows to watch on Netflix.

Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls collaborated with a film crew that followed them around in 1997 when they went for their sixth NBA title. Hence, if you enjoy stepping in Michael Jordan’s shoes once in a while, this show is perfect for you.

It pictures his career in a great way by showcasing his struggles from his college days to the time he becomes a star.

Interestingly, this show allows you to enjoy commentary from Michael Jordan, Phil Jackson, Deniss Rodman, and so many more.

Boston witnessed the biggest art heist in 1990. When Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum was robbed, an estimated amount of $500 million worth of art went missing. Apparently, no one has been caught to date and none of the art pieces have been recovered.

Interestingly, this four-part documentary series showcases the incident in detail. It is directed by Colin Barnicle and co-produced by Barnicle and his brother. Surprisingly, this docu-series was filmed over a seven-year duration.

Additionally, the story features interviews with everyone who was involved in the incident. You will witness conversations with the security guards, the museum staff, the investigators, and everyone in between.

Moreover, his standup named ‘Sticks and Stones’ gained attention when he spoke about the gun culture, opioid crisis, and celebrity scandals in a witty way.

    Seth Meyers (Lobby Baby)

Pakistani Wedding Dresses from the Past Century to the Present Day

    0

Today, Pakistani fashion consumes our lives like a well-oiled machine that is fuelled by the inexhaustible fashion industry. Moreover, it is so highly maintained by fashion enthusiasts that keep up with the ever-changing trends. Additionally, social media makes sure fashion embeds in our soul and is always significant in the picture.

However, this was not always true. Fashion trends worked their way for years before they were altered. Today, it should be applauded if a trend lasts even 6 months.

Wedding dresses from the past were extraordinarily simple, elegant, did not need a designer to craft them and lasted years until they were passed down to sisters or daughters.

Today, we want to shed light on the transformation of wedding dresses from the past century to reveal how much our fashion industry has evolved. Continue reading to find out how it all started.

    1940’s

Wedding dresses were mainly inspired by the Indian culture right after Pakistan came into existence in 1947. While the bride’s dress was uncomplicated with only a few laces here and there, grooms adorned plain shirwani or kurta pyjama.

Gharara was the talk of the town in 1940’s. While all the women wore ghararas on a daily basis as well, wearing a slightly festive version of the same was preferred on the big day. The inspiration came from our founder, Quaid-e-Azam’s sister Fatima Ali Jinnah. Pakistan’s national dress for women was also a gharara paired with a kameez.

Brides chose brightly colored ghararas made out of Zarbakh or silk with nice pure chaandi (silver) work on them. The shirts were kept plain while the dupattas were also designed with chaandi embellishments.

    1950’s

Nothing much changed over the 10 years in Pakistan taking wedding dresses into account. Women of Pakistan were stylish, yet very effortless. Interestingly, most of the ghararas were hand crafted at home by mothers and khalas.

The wedding season was enjoyed to the full by preparing hand stitched, home crafted clothing for the bride from 3-4 months prior to the wedding. Sisters, cousins and all other women of the house got together to embroider, add laces and finally stitch ghararas for the bride.

Again, men wore simple white, off-white, cream or black shirwani with straight pants.

    1960’s

1960’s brought fashion into perspective. Interestingly, Sughra Kazmi was the pioneer bridal revivalist and a couturier. Additionally, Maheen Khan was the only seamstress in Lahore and she started her business from her veranda.

Interestingly, Maheen Khan worked with multiple French designers, Stockman mannequins and created a new path towards fashion industry for Pakistani women.

Indeed, the color choices for the bride became brighter and more combos started pouring in. Different shades of reds, maroons, blues and greens were preferred.

The dress material shifted from pure silk to tissue or a combination of both. Heavy jewelry became the new fashion trend. Brides wore 3 necklaces, a nice tikka, a nath on the nose, a beautiful jhumar on the head and many bangles.

    1970’s

The 70’s were an interesting decade for wedding formals. While the Punjabi culture kicked in and brought cool clothing designs in the form of shalwar kameez, Urdu speaking families stuck to ghararas. Further, 70’s brides adorned beautifully designed shalwar kameez for their Mayyun and Mehndi. The colors revolved around shades of yellow, mustard and greens.

However, the main wedding events including Baraat and Valima saw reds and greens. Interestingly, the choice of cloth shifted from tissue to intricate designs of jamawar while the dupattas were made out of net, chiffon or silk.

Accordingly, men wore shirwani for baraat and a 3 piece western suit for valima.

    Punjabi shalwar kameez’

    1980’s

With the advent of Indian films, glamorous clothes gained the spotlight. Ghararas got paired with shorter shirts to enhance the curves and ‘lehngas’ were the new in!

Nince flared lehngas with usually thigh length, plain shirt got featured. However, the dupatta stole the show due to heavy lappa, gotaa and chaandi work on it.

Jamawar was still the best choice for ghararas and lehngas. We saw a comeback of tissue for shirts and dupattas. The wedding dress colors shifted from deep reds to floral pinks, shocking pink, greens combined with pinks while gold enhanced the overall look.

    1990’s

By the end of 1980’s, names such as Bunto Kazmi, Nilofer Shahid, Rizwan Beyg, Shamaeel and Amir Adnan became the talk of the town. 1989 saw the first Pakistani fashion show featuring Maheen Khan alongside Freiha Altaf. Hence, Karachi rose up as Pakistan’s fashion capital.

While hiring a designer was a big deal in early 1990’s, brides begged their parents to get them uniquely crafted attires to look different. The designers charged a lot but created beautiful wedding attires for both, the bride and the groom.

Since photography also went up a notch, spending money on professionally designed clothing made sense now. In particular, a combination of reds and gold paved its way back in for baraat. On the other hand, Valima brides chose emrald greens, turquoise, fresh pink and shades of blue.

The makeup revolution was another factor that enhanced the bride’s overall look. Smokey eyes paired with popping colors of lip stains was the fashion trend.

Men on the other hand wore shirwani with shalwaar and a nice matching qulla (headgear). They still chose to wear a 3 piece suit for valima.

    2000’s

2000 was a brand new era that brought many opportunities with it. Since the fashion enthusiasts had graduated from the Pakistani School of Fashion Design Lahore, the structure of Pakistani fashion shifted forever.

Ghagra and Choli paved its way into our world from the Indian movies and everyone wanted to rock that look. New fashion designers such as HSY, Maheen Kardar, Nomi Ansari, Maria B and Kamiar Rokni gained the spotlight for wedding formals.

Brides wore beautiful lehngas with waist length cholis, barely covering their slim waists. Some even chose to show theirs. The fashion trend took a turn towards monogamous and one-tone color combinations. Specifically, a one tone red dress from top to bottom was considered supreme. Another color that made its way to the top was ‘Peach’. Peach or tea-pink gave a nice soft look for brides on their valimas.

Another thing that changed was the style and choice of embellishment on the bridal dresses. Heavy stone work, lappa, embroidery and tilla was seen as opposed to gotaa and chaandi. Now, the choli also had matching kaam on it while the lehngas and dupataas were full of intricate designs like never before.

    2005

By mid 2000’s, important fashion events such as Lux Style Awards and Carnivale de Couture gave Pakistani designers nice platforms to flaunt their art. New names added the fashion designer list every 6 months and Pakistan saw a bang in the fashion industry like never before.

While professional designers showcased their ideas and designs in their boutiques, local people were equally interested in buying them.

Ghagra choli and lehnga choli was still the trendy deal but the choice of color combos, style of embellishment and embroidery work shifted a lot. Colors such as peach, tea-pink, beige and gold, maroon and green, orange and red made to the top.

The embellishments got larger and colored strips of jamawar outlined the dresses. Another cool factor included men wearing shirwani with qullas that matched the bride’s dress.

    2010

Interestingly, Shararas came in fashion in 2010. In sum, similar style of pants as ghararas, but with a less flow and a one piece flared lower.

Moreover, unique color combinations with loads of lappa, tilla, stonework came into existence. Color combinations such as sea-green and silver, maroon with beige, purple and blues came in fashion.

    2015

2015 was the year when nude colors gained the instant spotlight. Basic beige, light brown, white, cream, pearl white and similar dull shades made their way to the bride’s outfit with a contrasting red or maroon dupatta.

2015 was also the year when long, ankle length shirts were enjoyed as compared to shorter shirts. It was the same for formal wear. A shift from simple lehngas and short shirts went straight to long, A-line ankle length shirts paired with either churridar pyjama or sharara.

    2020

Lots of pearls, intricate work, different embellishments and textures are the new bridal trend. Moreover, long maxi dresses with can-can and poof look gorgeous. On the other hand, gharga choli made its way back to the hood but limp ghagras won’t cut the slack. Super flared, can-can poofed ghagras are the real deal today.

Moreover, colors such as slivers, pearl whites, peaches, deep reds and dull gold are the new trend.

Additionally, the cutwork and handwork on the bridal dresses is so intricate and equally expensive. The best part is that grooms wear trendy clothes too that showcase matching colored outfits as the bride. While some grooms wear jamawar waist coats to match the bride’s dress, others wear shirwanis with unique cuts, designs and colors.

The main cloth textures this decade are chiffon and net for brides and jamawar and satin for men.

Located in Korangi district in Karachi, Sindh, Tooba Masjid is another iconic tourist attraction in the city. This singly domed, pure white marble mosque looks vast, clean, pure and different from all others in Pakistan.

Interestingly the locals refer to it as the Gol masjid. Morover, you will see the locals get together for casual chats, photography, or for picnics as soon as the evening hits and the temperatures drop. They all usually gather around the fountains and other water hubs the mosque offers.

This mosque is not as large as the rest in Pakistan. The main hall can only hold up to 5000 people.

Bhong Mosque – Rahim Yar Khan

The famous Bhong mosque 50 kilometers southwest of Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab province has to be one of the most decorated, colorful and nicely designed mosques. This is not as large as the others. However, this mosque was built over a period of 50 years! It began in 1932 and the construction ended in 1982. Architects and artists from Multan, Karachi, and Rajhastan gathered to create this beauty.

Apparently, as the legend reveals, whenever the project would stop in between the process, someone close to the project died mysteriously! That answers the long timeline of the project.

Tthis mosque won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1986 because of its beautiful design. This architecture marvel is visually stunning. The pictures alone make you want to visit it.

The mosque is pastel blue, silver, candy-floss pink, and bright yellow. The tiled artwork, mirror work on the walls, wooden work on the door frames are all incredible. Moreover, you can also spot Quranic verses calligraphy.

Moreover, very less Pakistani people know about this mosque as opposed to other famous mosques. The people who have an interest in Islamic architecture or Seraiki folk culture love this.

    Grand Jamia Mosque – Lahore

The Grand Jamia Mosque in Bahria Town Lahore is new to the scene. It came into existence in 2014 but instantly joined the list of the most beautiful mosques in Pakistan.

Nayyar Ali Dada designed it keeping cultural and artistic aesthetics from other renowned mosques in mind. However, since it is new, it is hence modern and has the latest technological facilities for all the local worshippers.

The 4 million hand-crafted tiles cover the exterior of the mosque while the interior showcases 50 gorgeous chandeliers imported from Iran and out-of-this-world Turkish carpets.

Best Movies and Shows for Women on Netlfix Pakistan

    0

It seems as though the term ‘chick flick’ is extremely essential for all women. After all, watching a perfect rom-com at the end of the day with a bucket full of popcorns and an assortment of chocolates is the ideal catharsis girls need.

Moreover, after a year of social distancing, making isolation a little cheerful is important. So if you need the perfect dose of romance, cheesiness, comedy and fashion, here’s what tops my list of chick-zone favorites.

    Endless Love

If soul touching romantic movies are your cup of coffee, this movie is a must watch. Endless love is about a high school girl who doesn’t socialize much. However, after graduation, she has the chance to meet her former class fellow David and fall completely in love with him.

Will the romance last just for summer or will the relationship last a lifetime? I guess you will have to find out yourself.

How to lose a guy in 10 days

The perfect upbeat rom-com from 2003 still has a lasting impression. Interestingly, Benjamin is challenged by his co-workers to make any girl fall in love with him in 10 days. On the other hand, Andie has to construct an article on how to ditch a guy in 10 days. Cool right?

The duo crosses the path and their 10 days are super cool to watch for a good laugh. If you haven’t watched this one, you need to do it now.

    Just go with it

Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler are my top two when it comes to light comedy movies on Netflix. Interestingly, the story uncovers beautifully when Adam Sandler convinces his assistant to pose an his ex-wife to score him a young girlfriend.

The assistant and her kids are forced to take a trip to Hawaii with the couple, only to find out they are not made for each other. Additionally, this flick from 2011 is hilarious, funny, full of fashionable outfits and everything else a woman wants to watch.

    Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Although Forgetting Sarah Marshall dates back to 2008, it is safe to say I can watch it any day without feeling guilty. Unfortunately Peter and Sarah break up and Peter goes for a Hawaiian vacation solo. Surprisingly, Sarah Marshall chooses the same vacation with her new boyfriend.

While the situation is ugly, Mila Kunis jumps in and pulls back Peter from the dark side and shows him a new world of love.

    Definitely Maybe

Definitely Maybe is such an adorable movie about a 30 year old father (Ryan Renolds) having a conversation with his daughter about his love life before marriage. Interestingly the daughter has to guess who her mom is from the story about 3 women.

If you crave a light hearted romantic movie with twists, this one is for you.

    The Ugly Truth

Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler make an awesome couple on-screen. Abbie is a TV Producer whose verdict about love is exactly opposite Mike’s. Nonetheless, Mike proves how his theories make sense but oh, are they both in for a treat when they fall in love with each other?

This feature film is perfect for your couple’s movie night for a good laugh.

    Dark Desire (Spanish)

I don’t speak Spanish but I can surely read subtitles in English! Dark Desire (2020) is a new romantic, yet lustful TV show all women need to watch to ignite a flame in the bed. Dark Desire is an erotic thriller about a married woman who spends a fateful weekend away from her husband but in another’s arms.

However, while the weekend fulfills her lustful needs, things start to unravel, making her question about people close to her and their truths.

    Emily in Paris

Oh! What an upbeat, fashionable, chic and romantic TV show Emily in Paris is. Interestingly, Emily is an American marketing executive who is hired by a marketing firm in Paris for her perspective. Nonetheless, her opinions are looked down upon while her struggle to fit in and make friends is real.

Nevertheless, she finds many suitors in Paris but she must choose just one. Who will the lucky man be? Watch to find out.

    Bridgerton

Bridgerton is a tribute to the Regency era in England. 8 close knit families need suitable suitors for their children but everyone aims for the highest ranked suitor. Indeed, the Bridgerton daughter is the most beautiful, intelligent and elegant of the lot and choosing only one suitor becomes hard when many line up.

Moreover, once she chooses the love of her life, the story reveals passionate love, romance, love between the sheets and so much more you simply cannot miss.

Meal Preparation Tips for Your Family Trip

    0

We’ve all taken a family trip away, whether it was to a new city or down to the beach. But one of the challenges in these trips is figuring out what your family will eat while you’re gone.

Meal planning is the key to success when you travel. It saves you time, money and lessens the risk of eating unhealthy foods away from home. Let me share with you my meal preparation tips for your family out-of-town trip.

    Have a Meal Plan

Meals are important for any general healthy lifestyle and proper diet plan since it is the main source of nutrition. When planning for a trip, most people usually carry 3-4 days’ worth of food with them.

However, it can be difficult to organize and carry a huge quantity of food items while traveling. It is also inconvenient and expensive to eat at restaurants every night. Take some time to plan your meals and snacks so you stay energized and save money.

What foods can you bring while traveling?

    ·         Cooked meals that have no soups

    ·         Salads with very small amount of dressing

    ·         Fruits

    ·         Baked food such as sweet potatoes, cakes, etc

    ·         Veggies like carrots, cucumbers

    ·         Pasta based meals

    Use a Meal Plan App

Instead of spending your precious time figuring out what to eat every day while on a trip, plan for it in advance with a little assistance from apps. That way, you won’t always end up eating junk food at every meal.

A meal plan app helps you in writing a list of food items that will be used for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    Invest in Meal Preparation Tools

To make food prepping easy and fast, you will need food preparation tools such as a food processor, a microwave oven and a blender.

Food processors have become must-have equipment in today’s kitchens. You want to make your cooking experience easier, more convenient, and faster? Then you should consider getting one for yourself. The food processor makes your food preparation tasks easier, which means it helps you save time and energy. When using a food processor (machine), you will suddenly find out how much easier it is to chop or grate your ingredients than doing it manually.

That will save you from the burden of chopping vegetables so you can easily prepare your meals and snacks in minutes.

    Incorporate All Food Groups

Your body needs all food groups, especially healthy fats, proteins, and complex carbohydrates while traveling, to maintain your health and boost your immune system. This is because the foods in each group help your body build and repair tissues.

    Protein Food

Benefits of protein food include the essential amino acids that are found in protein that aren’t present in other food sources. Protein is found in beans, nuts, seeds, meat, dairy products, eggs, and soy products. Proteins enhance muscle growth and aid digestion and help the body to repair tissue and produce antibodies.

    Fruits and Veggies

Like I mentioned before, you need to include fruits and vegetables in your food for travel. When you and your family will be out on a trip, your bodies will be vulnerable to extra exposure from germs, viruses, and illnesses which can easily cause gastrointestinal disorders if you do not take good care of yourself.

Fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamins, minerals, and fiber plus will help you avoid many diseases when traveling.

    Carbohydrates

You will need energy foods when traveling such as cakes, baked potatoes, pasta, bread, rice. Carbohydrates are good for you. They give your body plenty of energy and are important for fuelling moving muscles. The key to good health is to keep your carb consumption under control, and not just eat carbs blindly.

    Invest in High-Quality Food Containers

There is one serious thing to consider when you plan to take a road trip with the whole family – bring your food! That’s right, not only will you save money but also you will reduce the amount of trash. Therefore, you should equip yourself with those cool and high-quality food containers for family road trips.

Make sure they are also durable and will keep foods safe for everyone.

There are food containers with matching cutlery sets that are perfect for eating together in the car without making any mess. Even if the kids are throwing things around, they won’t land on the floor or your clothes – because they are safely stored within these cool containers.

    Clean your Food

On your travels, you have neither the time nor the energy to waste on clean-up nor shopping for complicated ingredients. There is a lot of planning that goes into eating healthy while on the road.

You need to decide what foods you are going to travel with and then plan the order in which you will prepare them; washing, peeling, and packaging your fruits and vegetables; preparing meals with little or no refrigeration; storing leftovers and then throwing away what you don’t eat at the end of each day.

Confessions of a Pakistani Army Brat!

    1

Assalam o Alekum is how we all greet each other. Interestingly, add a salute to that while simultaneously stomping the right foot on the ground and you have the perfect Army brat!

Indeed, Army life is the best because it not only has its unique perks, but it is a world of its own. If your father was in the armed forces, you already know how special and cool your life has been. You know you have lived to the fullest as an Army Brat if you can relate to at least 3 of these. Check these out.

You get a new home every year in a new city

Whenever we talk about our background, I get replies like ‘Gujjar Khan, Peshawar, Sialkot, etc’. As an Army brat, it is hard to point to just one city because all the main cities of Pakistan are my home!

I was born in one city, shifted to another for schooling, a different one for College and well, I can tell you I lived in one spot for 2 whole years; I consider it an achievement.

It is safe to say that home is where the Army assigns your dad and you get to call many places your home.

Your Father’s PA Number is very important

Well, when we talk about setting passwords for the WIFI, the locker, car’s crook lock and everything else in between; your father’s PA number comes in good use.

Interestingly, the whole family memorizes the PA number by heart. After all, we frequently use it at the Service’s Mess, Officer’s Mess as well as at the CMH.

Army Brats play these games all afternoon and never get bored

While everyone has a list of serious sports such as badminton, swimming, golf and others, Army kids live in a world of their own. Interestingly, these awesome games have been passed down by generations and nonetheless, never get old or boring.

If Teelo Express, Baraf Pani, Oonch Neech, Chupan Chupai, Stapu, Keesh, Pithu Garam and rolling down on on the golf course ring a bell, you are truly an Army brat!

    Zero Concept of Boundary Walls

A mere hedge was enough to keep all the strangers out. Moreover, the colony itself was boundary enough and roaming around in nearby streets without supervision was never a problem.

Sadly, civilians can never experience the freedom of being allowed to be out of the house all afternoon without the fear of being kidnapped or caught.

Batman wasn’t the Batman from DC Comics but surely felt like one

Midsection of waiter holding service bell in plate against gray background

Ah! The struggle to find a loyal maid or butler today is a daunting task. However, it was the opposite in the Army household. A Batman (butler) was no less than a robot.

He worked in the kitchen, washed the cars, fed the pets, ironed the clothes, supervised the gardener, dropped Sahab’s clothes to the Dhobi and stayed up until the whole family was well taken care of. Above all, the same energy and zeal was a part of the deal the next day and even the day after that and even shifted from city to city when Sahab got posted. What lucky days were they.

Your Dad going for Exercise meant he was away for months

Exercise, unlike regular daily workout meant something grand when the leader of the family was assigned to it. Exercise means your father is away for no less than 3 months and you can trick your mom into letting you stay up late, watch more movies and go to the ‘canteen’ to get more snacks.

Mess ke Shami Kabab and Langar ki Daal were the perfect snack

Nobody can beat the taste of Mess ke Kabab and Langar ki Daal is out of this world! If you didn’t swear by these treats, your dad was not in the army.

The best part is, being broke never mattered. You could simply order these and your father’s PA number would act as the perfect currency for these. What happened at the end of the month was another story we shouldn’t get into!

No one knew any Aunty’s name but her Husband’s name worked

CO Aunty, G2 Aunty, Aunty Irfan, Aunty Sohail are the sort of names you knew aunties by! I mean, I still don’t know their real names. Their surnames did the trick.

    Tambola was taken super seriously

Truthfully, I really miss Tambola nights. The wonderful open air setting, unlimited coca colas and uncles and aunties playing Tambola while we held our sheets; we took those days for granted. And then the special lingo you still know by heart; ‘Chor with a gun…41’. Lol, does it ring a bell?

There is so much more Army life has to offer. Do you miss those good old sweet days too? Tell your experience in the comments below.

Organic Pakistani Skincare Brands you need to invest in

    0

There are a lot of exciting components that need to be taken into account when we talk about skincare. However, since everyone has a different skin type, skin tone and texture, it definitely becomes hard to place your finger on just one product. As one product will never wok for all.

Inspired today, we thought about highlighting the best organically made skincare products by our Pakistani entrepreneurs because they are cruelty free, harsh-chemical free and totally pocket friendly. Curious to see which ones made the cut? Take a look below.

Moreover, handcrafted organic shampoos for dandruff or dull hair truly take the cake. You can get your shampoos customized too. How cool is that?

Additionally, the price range is pkr 300 to pkr 2000 which is awesome.

Warning Signs the Career You’re in Is Wrong for You

    0

Not everyone ends up in the correct career right off the bat. Some become so hypnotized by their current job that they never spot the warning signs that something was amiss. However, there’s no shortage of signs that you ended up in the wrong career, but spotting them can be difficult if you are still convincing yourself that the job you hold now is the best path for you. Did you know that, according to EdSurge, the average person will hold nearly 12 jobs by the time they are 50?

Should the career you have now be the product of many job hunts and years of experience? It is more than likely that you may actually be in the right career. However, if you are still young or fresh into your career, it’s possible that the job you have now may not be the best career for you. Don’t allow the warning signs of a bad career match to pass you by without taking any action.

    Your Day-To-Day is Beyond Boring

No one ever said work would be the highlight of your day. However, if you are consistently bored each day and none of the tasks assigned to you even remotely catch your interest, consider learning how to write a resignation letter. Your boredom with day-to-day tasks will either stem from a lack of skills being used to complete your work or the ease at which those tasks can be completed.

Regardless of the exact reason, staying on a career path that leaves you bored is no way to live your life. Work will make up most of your life, and the career you hold should excite you to your core. Now, keep in mind that not every day will interest you as much as the last. But you should be able to get excited about your job.

Consider looking into more career paths and doing some research on what certain jobs entail. What seems to be a good match for your skills or interests? Be sure to do sufficient research, however, as you don’t want to end up in a career that is just as bad as the one you escape.

You Constantly Look at Job Postings

A huge red flag that the job you’re in isn’t right for you is if you see yourself looking at job postings all the time. Whether it be jobs at your own companies or others. Also, seriously looking at other jobs is indicative of the fact that you are not happy with your own career.

Clearly, you don’t believe that the job you have now is what you should be doing. When it comes to the best reasons for leaving a job, a lack of a challenge or recognition that there is a skill misalignment will show a certain level of personal introspection to new potential employers. It will also signify that you are a person who knows now what they want to do and that your time wouldn’t be wasted at a new career.

Focus on yourself and identify what it is that you actually want to do. If you wish to get a job that requires technical skills that you don’t have, online degrees are the answer. Consider taking the time to pursue a new education and launch the career that you aspire to.

You Don’t Know Where You’re Headed

Overall, a general lack of clarity on what direction you wish to head in is a big sign. Odds are, you did not guess the perfect career for yourself on the first try. Additionally, the one you hold now is a mismatch.

Not knowing the career you want can be daunting and lead you to accept any opportunity that offers a salary. However, it’s important to slow down and ensure you are entering a job for the right reasons, rather than pure convenience.

    Conclusion

The warning signs that you are in the wrong career are easy to spot. Nonetheless, only if you are looking for them. Try not to fool yourself into believing that the job you have is the best option. Especially if you are still relatively new to the workforce. Being in the wrong career is a fate that occurs to many workers. However, a fate that few of those workers ever escape. Don’t let yourself be deluded by a job that isn’t a fit for your skills and interests. Additionally, don’t stop searching until you find a job that fills you with passion
